    the valley floor especially along the river bottoms is mainly sagebrush and cottonwoods. the rivers are also mostly snowmelt fed so by this time of the year everything is dried up almost completely. the hills and mountains are all heavily wooded pine forest.
    the main area they were searching and where they set up the tents is right in the main dispersed camping area, only about 2.5 miles form the main highway (red X). and less than a mile from the staging/parking area where the search started (blue X). there's campsites along that road at 100 yard intervals
