Roof Rack

Hey guys need some advice, I have a 05 double cab base for 4L. My truck did not come factory with a roof rack so I went to my Steeler ship and ordered one for $375 when I got it in it didn’t look like all the pieces were they are so I asked him to double check things
Now he is telling me that they don’t make a roof rack for a 2005 but yet they ordered me one and I was in a box in front of me evidently it was just the crossbars and not the rails
But he wouldn’t open up the box stating that it couldn’t be returned if it was!! I called BS!

So they refunded my money but my question to all my fellow taco members out there at my Tacoma came without a roof rack from the factory will the holes or plugs still be in the roof if I found one and installed it on mine my dealership says that is not possible it have to come factory with the holes in the roof?

 

The correct part number for the roof rack kit is

$352 PT278-35170 Roof Rack (Double CAB), 1 Pack, Black

PT278-35170. It fits all 2005-2021 Tacos.

Thank you, but all I have now are the rubber strips, I assume those come off for the install and screw hole are under that! Like mounting step bars??

 

Should fit 2005 and up. Under the weatherstripping should be paint matched foam tape that covers the threaded holes. You gotta poke em through yourself then use those holes to bolt on the bracket (front end) and the rest of the roof rack. Crossbars fold into the rails. I suggest checking everything out on your own truck, but keep in mind that if you poke the holes through, make sure you seal everything properly as this can result in leaks.

 

There should be multiple videos on youtube. I suggest looking for the OEM roof rack installation, not OEM STYLE roof rack as installation may vary. When i was installing mine, i found that the dealership-posted videos were the most accurate.

 

Get a prinsu

 

Go for aftermarket. They're much better and you'll be much happier than the oem one

 

I got a caliraised premium Roof rack

 

Alot of people including myself had fitment issues on the windshield.there was a small gap that the roof rack didn’t sit flush. And it bothered me so I took it off. And that was an OEM . Maybe be aftermarket would be better

 

If you're looking for a cross bar style rack that is superior to OEM and easily removed, I'd highly recommend Rhino Rack.

Not sure what you plan on using the OEM rack for but the load limit for the rack is only 75lbs. Like others have stated, go aftermarket. Heck, even the fake prinsu Hooke offroad rack is cheaper than OEM and would still be a better choice.

 

Hey guys just an update I went OEM because I’m not going to carry a lot of weight and I like the look of it and the dealership told me that it would not fit because it only fits 16-21
Toyota wrong again

But I have one question the passenger side came with the crossmember not connected but they did give me the screw to put through it and screw into some thing for the swivel point on the passenger side I have nothing for that screw the screw into any help would be appreciated how I can adapt Without removing it from the truck

 

Wish i could help you. Its been a long time since i installed mine. Weird that they didnt finish installation on your truck. I would definitely go back and have them do it, not because its difficult, but because you paid for their service. God forbid you install it and something happens they wont cover it…

 

If i remember correctly, the instructions stated not to apply too much downward force when torquing the screws. I guess it pushes the tap plate out of the holder—something that, if i remember correctly, results in you not being able to screw something in. I can be wrong though, never happened to me so i cant say. But it kinda makes you wonder if this happened to them.

 

On the plus side, the roof rack looks good! Always liked how the oem roof rack looked on our trucks. Really ties in the black from the bed and whatever else you have on your truck. Plus it gives it an extra inch or two on the top making it look a little taller too!
