    Hello TW!

Today after I got home, I put the Taco in park to move something in my garage and noticed a loud ticking sound for 20-30 seconds, then it stopped.

I know these engines are loud because of direct injection but why would the ticking be loud and then go away (or drastically reduce)?

    Thanks TW, you’re the best.

It’s probably gonna blow. Unless you have a bomb suit, and know how to use it, run inside and get behind a wall with a blanket over you. If you survive the night, the truck will probably start like nothing ever happened tomorrow. It might do it again though. They take awhile to warm up to an owner, but are loyal when they do.

    I appreciate this.

I’m not worried about the noise being an issue necessarily. Just curious as to what it could be.

I searched the forum and Google and came up with nothing aside from possibly being the injectors doing some cleaning?

Any (informative) input would be appreciated.

We posted at around the same time and I did mention the injectors cleaning.

I read my manual front to back but some things don’t stick the first read. I guess I could give it a second go.

    EDIT: Thanks!

No worries. It’s mentioned in there somewhere.

Injectors go into a cleaning cycle occasionally and it’s a little noisy. Part of Toyotas D-4S dual injection system. I remember being a bit worried about it when my truck was new.

It’s also mentioned dozens of times across this forum and even the first result of google.

Injectors are noisy periodically to prevent carbon buildup. Noise in newer engines is good, even though it sounds like a tin can full of bolts sometimes.
