A group of us are planning an overnight trip to BHM Offroad Test Facility on Oct 9-10 (sat-sun). The place is between Binghamton and Syracuse, NY.
Here is the thread from our spring trip:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tony-spring-meet-n-greet-at-bhm-4-17.710451/page-16

Its also close to Cooperstown with the baseball HOF, Ommegang Brewery

Also, check out the Northeast Toyota Overland Facebook group: Coming into upstate NY, watch your speed on the Tacconic. It is full of cops. set your cruise at 61.

Going from Burlington VT into NY there are ferry services across lake Champlain that are pretty cool. There isnt much along the northern edge of NY at the Canadian boarder. You are above the mountains and its just farm land. Its cool to see signs in french, but thats about it. Id go through Lake Placid (olympic village), Saranac and follow your way SW through Old Forge and into Utica. Much better drive.

We go every year and just got back. Wheeling on cape cod is a great place to hang and really unique vs any other wheeling in the NE. There are tons of seals to watch, you catch the occasional whale and sometimes a great white. Passes are $50 for 7 days. We usually camp at adventure bound in N Truro, a out 10 minutes from the dunes. Its not cheap. Nothing on a cape is. I got notes on which sites at Adventure bound are the best if you plan to go.

I'm debating adding another week or two to the end of the trip and exploring Michigan and the great lakes. Would have to figure out working remote up there, but I'm sure it could be done.

Will try to post pics along the way, or at least a bunch when the trip is over.

Typically I associate length and time as being linked, but you do have a fair point. Unfortunately I think that hike would be hard to do with the dog. Unless I strap her on my back or something to climb up those ladders...

Is kaaterskill falls just a regular walking hike or does it have ladders and other not dog friendly things too?

I do want to do this one too, but it looks like dogs aren't allowed. Maybe my friend and I will take turns on that one or something.

I'm hoping that's not the case for this trip. Last summer arches and Yellowstone were crazy packed compared to just a few years ago when I went. This spring I spent a couple weeks in the PNW and it wasn't too bad there, but they had a lot of stuff still closed for Covid.

May hit you up for some of these spots. I'm not sure that we'll make it on our way north, but we may adjust the way back and go through this area and then cut west towards Syracuse.

This is a backup plan if the weather is bad the day we're in the area. I never knew Yeungling wasn't available across the country until a couple years ago when I overheard some people talking about how they can't get it in California.

Nice, I'll keep that meet up in mind. Me may be in the area that night.

Noted on the cops. Good news is a 5,000 lb 3rd gen 4Runner that isn't regeared is not the fastest vehicle around!

Thanks for the route suggestion! That looks like a good route through some of the more "green" areas on Google maps.

We may go out to the cape before we head north through Boston just to check it out. Sand wheeling is pretty fun, I did a little of that at Pismo a few years ago. Definitely need to air down for that one!

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it's all very helpful!

I think the tentative plan is going to be get through Philly and NYC pretty quickly, maybe a few stops for food. Then maybe a quick drive up the Taconic or up the Hudson Valley, and then the Merritt through Connecticut and into Rhode Island. Then to Cape Code and up through Boston and into Maine.

Once in Maine well probably slow down and take it slower along the coast towards Acadia. Depending on how long we spend there we may continue up the coast, or cut inland towards either the North Maine Woods or Moosehead lake.

Then take Hwy 2 across Maine and into Vermont and New Hampshire. Probably take the ferry in Burlington and then cut southwest towards Utica.

Any suggestions on things to do or see between Utica NY and Cleavland? I know that's a very large area...

No ladders and I’ve been down it in the winter with my little terrier dog. Park at the Laurel House Rd lot. The 23a access point is closed. Be warned, this spot gets a lot of cityiot traffic on the weekends.

Lot of steps if you park at the right (wrong?) spot at Kaaterskill Falls, but in peak season you might also have to hike a good ways and/or park on a main road to get to the falls at all.

Big difference between Taconic up Hudson Valley then east into Maine vs Merritt through CT to RI and up the coast. Both have excellent scenery if you hit the right spots but in-season the Hudson Valley will provide nonstop foliage vs the coast may be somewhat limiting due to the more populated nature of the landscape. Then again, if you want variety you can run up the coast then go west from Maine back down through NY like you mentioned. Really depends if you want two very different sections of the trip or just to be engrossed in the fall sensation the entire time. Leaves are already starting to change in middle NY...

I never did post any pictures in this thread from my excursion up north... I posted a bunch in my build thread on T4R, link below. I ended up going up the east coast, spending 4 or 5 days in Maine, then going through NH and VT and across upstate NY. Spent a couple days in Cleveland and then went up into Michigan to the Upper Peninsula, down the Wisconsin coast, and down through Indiana and Kentucky.

Trip pics start on this page, post 1033. Here's some of the highlights. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. The trip was great.

Thanks! She had the best time. The nights we slept in the tent were her favorite.
