60+ year old thread.

I got her almost 4 years ago this month, at 191K or so. And I do my best to add what I can.....

 

Just brought home some projects... right in the beginning of building my garage/workshop/studio. But, ya gotta strike while the iron is hot and after watching these trucks for several years I finally got a chance to acquire them.

 

Good morning everyone!! Quiet day yesterday. Did a little running around and worked on tidying up the wiring on the under hood LEDs I installed in the Tacoma the other day.

The clapboards are now on the stable - now I need to put the finishing coats of paint on them. We primed all the sides before they were put up - lucky we did because it rained again after the contractor finished up hanging them.

I'm shooting the the college's annual sporting clays fundraiser today - think I'm going to get wet.

Good morning everyone.

Yesterday was great. I installed a larger SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB - M.2 NVMe drive in the PC and migrated the OS and PC data to the new drive. I was also able to combine 2 of the partitions on the drive to form a large partition for the OS to use. Quite the learning experience. I highly recommend the AOMEI family of software products for cloning drives and merging partitions. Next up is installing a new monitor next week and hopefully installing a new video card.

Today is a COSTCO shopping day and beginning to learn Always on my mind written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James. Various artist have recorded the song with Willie Nelson winning a Grammy in 1982.

 

You might as well be speaking Chinese to me, I don't understand any of it, lol. I'm just tech literate enough to barely use the phone and computer to post on forums etc. Some old guys really get it and then there's guys like me that are in the not so much club.

 

I'm still waiting for computers to catch up to me. They are getting better. I can use a lot of things that were once so convoluted that it took a ten year old to show me how to use them. In about twenty years I expect computers will be fully functional for a committed luddite.

 

Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Love those M37's! And, LOL Tom, I forgot that I ripped up a HP laptop up last month. Yanked it's pitiful 4K RAM and gave it the max of 16, and disconnected the pitiful 28G SSD that Windows ATE when I got it with a 400GB SSD with a CD Rom adapter! Of course, I took pics. I had forgotten I started it, then my wife had a meeting and had to use a terrible old Gateway laptop we had, then got off my butt and finished it out for her. Now she can soar through those retired teacher meetings!

This morning is really the morning everyone thought yesterday was! 51* and not a cloud. Going to be a nice day to work out back. Heck, I might move mowing up to Thursdays to make the weekend longer, it's so nice. Then start the greenhouse.

LBR is home from the spa yesterday! And her facial is all done; no more wrinkles anywhere!




Ugh! But all better now.




I have an antenna mount to fix after he blocks it in a couple weeks, but I have trim parts on the way and a stupid amount of confidence.

Ordered a new Flemish string for the crossbow from a string maker who had stopped making them due to health issues with his wife. I have one of his on the bow, another one for a spare, and figured before I can't get another one from him I better get another one while I can, he makes good strings.
Looks like I have an outside kitty that likes me, the last 4 days there has been a "GIFT" of a dead vole or mouse laying in front of the door!

The latest project, "yet to be tested"!!!
When you cock a crossbow you put a foot in a stirrup to hold it down while pulling up on the string, it is always off to the side and I made this so it is centered. The stirrup goes in the raised part, then the bar with the 2 bolts pushes through it and captures the stirrup, then a foot is placed on both sides of the raised part and you can draw the bow centered. I only plan to use it when sighting in, target shooting, and cocking it when first getting out of the truck to hunt, not something that I will carry with me. They make something similar that stays on the bow, I didn't want that.

I would snap those up in an instant -- the neighbors... would just snap.

 

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with them. I bought them because I want one to make into a street comfortable ride, and maybe a tow beast. Just something fun to drive. go to car shows, and pull a car trailer or camper occasionally. The one I do this to will free up a good drivetrain, engine to axles, and maybe even an entire chassis I won't need.

But the other two are fun too. One has a brand new engine.

Which means I have to find homes for two of them. I'm assuming you are too far away to really be interested... but just out of curiosity what do you think they are worth? If they were over at your neighbor's, what would you pay for one?

 

No idea of the value. Back in the day Mustangs, Camaros, etc were "the thing", as they got expensive station wagon values took off then pick ups and vans, now larger trucks and commercial vehicles command good money. Best to spend a couple hours on line searching and get an idea.

As far as what I would pay -- I'm cheap (and poor ) and have a long history of cool trumping smart when buying projects. I have finally come to the realization that I have more "retirement projects" built up than I will ever be able to complete, time to start downsizing.

 

Sorry Greg, posting on a forum or doing an email is not my favorite way of communicating. I tend to forget that the recipient of the communication cannot read my thoughts. LOL This was the first time I performed this type of upgrade and I learned a lot. I was surprised at how easy it was to do. I had purchased a Dell Inspiron 3880 which is the least expensive dell computer you can buy. The largest solid state drive Dell offered was still smaller than what I actually wanted so I bought the PC with the smallest solid state drive possible to save money for upgrades. In the Dell world it would have cost me as much to upgrade to the largest drive Dell offered, so I decided to do the upgrade myself and install a drive twice as large as the largest Dell offering. In a nutshell this is what I did.

I had a small size solid state drive, that housed Windows 10 operating system, that I replaced with a larger solid state drive. After doing what I needed to do to make it happen and I looked at the new drive I had a large amount of space that was not being used on the solid State Drive. I combined this space with the operating system space so the operating system has more than enough storage for all documents and pictures.

Most of the new PC's have a solid State drive that resembles a stick of chewing gum in size. The drive is housed on the main mother board with it's own unique connector socket. Because it is located on the motherboard the speed of the drive is a lot faster than a drive connected to the mother board by a cable.

I have ordered a new monitor and it should be here Sunday. I am also waiting to order a new video card so I can do some simple picture and video editing. Researching the compatibility of a new video card with respect to the allocated space and connectivity on the motherboard plus the type of cable needed to connect the video card to the monitor has bean another learning lesson. There is a lot to consider to be able to make the best choices.

 

Good morning everyone! I got totally soaked at yesterday's sporting clays shoot fundraiser for the college. It absolutely poured for hours. But, I still had fun and killed a few clay birds...maybe I should try doing that more than once or twice a year.

Happy to see some sunshine today...hopefully. I'm going to give the new clapboards a day in the sun to dry out - they were already primed - before I put the final paint coats on them.

Busy weekend for hot air balloon flights - 4 scheduled - so it will be a busy one.

Good morning everyone. Nothing planned for today except guitar practice and end of week laundry. Going to cook a flank steak for dinner tonight. I have never tried my hand at flank steak. My plan is to fork tenderize and cover with Knorr's beef concentrate and place in a plastic bag for refrigeration during the day. Remove from the fridge an hour prior to smoking and cover with two rubs, SPG and a steak rub.

 

Good Morning Porch Folks! Got to remember to program that sunroom heater to turn on in the AM! Only takes a couple minutes to warm up, but why not? Mowed yesterday, so it's fix a little thing, pluck some peppers, and start playing with the greenhouse. That is all!

 

sixtys/wannabes/Susan. We're finished with mom & dad's apartment, finally; the kids and grands and so on picked through everything and took what they wanted, we gathered up all of the personal items and sensitive papers etc., then hired an outfit to come in and take what was left. There was some nice furniture, LOTS of clothes, kitchen items, and an office desk probably from the 1960's that the estate guy said would probably bring him some money. That really surprised me.

I've been fighting (relatively) minor medical issues throughout the past year. I kept saying it was stress related, and now that we are finally starting to see the light at the end of the parent care tunnel I think maybe it really was. My little maladies are clearing up and I'm starting to feel a lot more, well, normal I guess.

Life goes on. Go get some!

 

Good morning everyone!! We crewed a hot air balloon flight last night - great weather! Then Lynn and I stopped by the local "newish" cidery across the road from the launch point on our way home for a quick beverage.

We have another flight scheduled for this morning - meet time is 7AM. Hopefully the fog will hold off. And we have flights scheduled for tomorrow morning and evening but the weather looks iffy for those.

It's time to paint the new clapboards on the stable today, too!

Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Horns game is on early, so I have the day off! Just some putz fixits after that. Take up the greenhouse again tomorrow.

I didn't plan to rush into things, so I'm not. Got the insides stripped for room to work, hoses disconnected, and then removed "all" the roof nuts and bolts. Still have it strapped in place, and ran into a question on the back wall (blue), so that's where I left off to go look things up in the giant coloring book that is the instructions. OK, two more nuts to remove. Everything above the yellow lines will be lifted, then reinstalled on slotted angle steel inside. Could be fun!

 

Now that looks like a project that will take some time.
