You know how everytime you wash your truck, you always find a new scratch? A new dent? A new rock chip?

Today, on my way to work I noticed missing paint spots on my driver's side rear door. It's a 2018, so I'm not going to cry about it. Just some slight discomfort in my soul. These don't appear to be rock chips. In fact, the paint around the entire area looks like it is peeling away from the door.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to get one of those touch-up pens with this specific color.

That looks like the peeling Super White issue. There is a big thread about it somewhere here.

I feel your pain. White is known to do it. At minimum dab some clear to protect the edges. It may not stop it from happening, but it will prevent stuff from getting under the exposed edges

It’s only gonna get worse. Toyota has left most owners hanging though

I think BBP is the only one that got real attention?

At least with SW being a single stage, at home fixes in small areas can be matched up and wet sanded very nicely. Still, no excuse for the issue in the first place. More befitting of an FCA product.

My coworker has a 2017 with just over 100k. Super White. Toyota is repairing the issue for free. Try talking to the dealer nicely and see if they will help you out.

From what I read Toyota has had a lot of problems with their white. On other models like the Corolla and perhaps it was the Rav4 they are honoring the paint warranty. However with the Tacoma they are not. Which is a bunch of crap IMO. If I had a super white Tacoma I would be pissed.

    That is ridiculous.

Heck yeah. I get the reasons for water-based automotive paints, but Toyota can and should do better.

I'm often envious of SW Taco after a wheeling day.

I have the same exact issue with my 2017 White Off road. I just scuffed it up and used touch up paint. Toyota will do nothing for you....

So what you're saying is don't lawyer up, send a threating letter or run in to the dealer and throw a tantrum and demand a Pro? Just ask the dealer nicely to see what your options are? Wow, that's new.

UnAmerican I know....he actually went to this same dealer last year and they refused. Then went back this year (theory is since people are paying sticker or more for new cars, dealers have a little extra in pocket) because his gas door all but broke off. They said they would repair the areas around the windows that was flaking so he bought a new fuel door assy and they said they will spray the door for free as well since they will already have his paint matched.

I called my dealer, where I purchased this truck new, and they said because I am 1 month outside of warranty, they cannot help. :) I mean, I could tell by the manager's voice that he would have done anything he could, but his hands were tied.... Just kidding, he probably couldn't give a rat's ass about my truck, even if he tried.
He referred me to some 1-800 Toyota number. I called, started a case, and am going to have to wait for a call back with a verdict. From other threads, sounds like Toyota is not taking responsibility for this.

If they decide not to fix this, I'll just touch it up myself. All in all, I will never buy a Toyota again, at least their US/Mexican made models. To me it's just a company riding on its brand reputation at this point. Eventually people will figure out that the turd they bought with the Toyota emblem is what it actually is, a turd.

So what are you going to trade in for? Ram, Chevy or Ford?

That sucks, sounds like my luck. Always 1 month out of warranty or can’t return something.

    Sorry to hear.
