So Im at home, drinking some beers, feeling a little froggy and thinking about buying a cheap eBay bumper for the rear of my 2018 SR5 with the tow hitch package.

Im in the waits for my front BAMF hybrid front bumper, so I understand the "get what you pay for," "buy once, cry once" (whatever that means) arguments. But, Im so intrigued. I just figured, if I buy it and it sucks, I can take a small hit and sell it locally.

    Whats got me intrigued are:
    1. the sub $400 price tag
    2. a couple hundred of these (235 at least) have been sold on ebay. 235 boneheads?
    3. theres a small chance one of you guys might have one, and can give feedback
    4. they are in stock and ready to ship and can be at my door in a week - as opposed to the the well known fabricators whose bumpers are 3-4X the price and have much longer wait times.

anybodY? should I be the guinea pig? I'm not buzzed enough to buy it (yet) so I figured I'd post this, dream it out, and check back here when I'm buzzed off coffee.

*in no way do i condone drinking and tacomaworlding/buying tacoma stuff*

400 isn't much to gamble. The bumper looks pretty good. I would not expect perfection. I am not a bumper snob.

    two options

    drink more - buy it

    sober up
-wonder why you need a bumper that offers no advantage over OEM, other than looking like you changed it, and additional lights that will likely last a month
-is photoshopped on a tacoma in the ad, giving no idea of real-world fitment
-from the ad - "safeguard your steel stallion's front end against stones, mud, dirt, other bumpers and everything"

I mean, it says it will protect the front end - that's visionary for a rear bumper.
But it does also protect against "everything", so I suppose it should protect the front

But if I had wrecked my rear bumper and didn't want to do insurance, I might take a flyer

heck I just wish I had a steel stallion - sounds awesome

not sober yet. havent bought it yet.

one reason i think i need this bumper is that it might hold up better than current OEM plastic bumper in an instance where i might get fender bended or back into a pole, or something of that nature. maybe the protection factor of this lies somewhere between factory and quality rear bumper. fitment aside, protection-wise, it cant be worse, right?

i did not read the full description but if it also protects the front, and my tacoma is indeed a stallion, why havent I bought this already?

It’s not a bad bumper, it gets re labeled eithe body armor or whatever. Have one on my 2017 TRD off road, bolted up fine and no issues 3 yrs later

also, until i have this bumper bolted on to my steel stallion, one cant say, one way or another, that this offers no advantage over OEM. generally speaking, steel bumpers offer an advantage over OEM, otherwise they would not be a thing. even if this does not offer the maximum advantage that a premium steel bumper might, maybe it might be worth paying for whatever advantage I may get for $389 (i.e. getting %75 of the advantage and quality of a premium bumper for %30 pf premium steel bumper price).

like do i really need to buy Charmin when great value toilet paper does the same job, albeit maybe not as well for a fraction of the price?

if that makes any sense at all. lol

They are all the same, just sold to different vendors
Was a better alternative to the tinfoil stock

did the best side by side comparison of the Body Armor vs Ebay ones using the best available photos. Body Armor one has a few circular cut out holes, and the relief area around the trailer plug hole cutout is different. Otherwise they look pretty darn similar. All the angles appear to be the same too. A98C0B55-4AAD-4A39-848A-D1D6A709899B_1_201_a.jpg54FD27C5-9A1D-4AFD-93CB-17B39F94EE8E_1_201_a.jpg
