With all the posts of cracked gusset welds, we are starting to think that the spindles are designed to flex and gussets are fighting that flex, leading to the welds cracking. Wondering what conditions have lead to bent un-gusseted spindles as data to help decide to gusset or not.

    Thanks!

A stiff pothole will cause them to bend. They are definitely not designed to flex.

I am thinking this is possible.
I’ve been chasing a pull to the right for a few years.
I bought the Lifetime Alignment package years ago.
And I bet I’ve had it aligned 10x or more.
(Or maybe they aren’t making money and don’t want to diagnose it?)
All is in spec. Even the SAI shows good?

Suspension parts are expensive, I’m not throw parts at it for sure.
I figure if I get 45- 50k on a set of tires I’m not worrying about it.
I just have to rotate the tires more often, about every 5-7k.

I have a slight pull to the right since coming down from a bit more air than I anticipated after a launch off a dune while wheeling in Nevada. Been looking to replace the weak stock spindles with something else if anyone has any recommendations. I have King 2.5 mid travel suspension with Total Chaos UCA's.

Are 2nd Gen spindles cast iron?

I didn’t think that bent really good?

    like it just cracked instead

I haven't bent mine, but I have seen many bent ones in our shop. Some from hitting a rock or pothole, some from wheeling and sliding off a rock, some from just driving dirt roads with big tires.

If welds are cracking, it's more likely that they are not good welds than anything else.
