Any folks here in the Tucson area?

Looking for info on Catalina State Park -

Specifically - does it get dark enough to shoot the milky way at night.

I'm afraid the light pollution nearby will wreck it, but then again there are some
mountain ranges that may block it out.

Nice shot, your best viewing will be on the east side of the Chiracahua's near Portal, AZ

I would say no its not going to be dark enough for you. Little better viewing on Top of Lemmon. I think there are camping with services down by like Parker Canyon Lake or Sierra Vista that would not be as far as Portal. Also possibly out by the Desert Museum west side of the Tucson mountains will be a little darker.

It might be dark enough over at cochise stronghold on the east side of dragoons, I'm not sure exactly what services are there, but I know they have a campground there as well as a cabin you can rent if all else fails. It's a lot more convenient than going over to portal.
