    You 2 are cat people...

I want a cat, but I want it to live outdoors

    How do I accomplish this?

I want one because my old house in Salinas had a lot of strays and I lived out in the country. The benefit to that was rodent control.

Our new house is kind of out there but near a tiny city. I'm afraid with all the construction going on and new development that this could push rodents out of hiding and whatnot.

Would like to "adopt" some rodent control.

Lot of people have indoor/outdoor cats, I don't think strictly outdoor is all that good for them unless you set them up with something in the backyard or garage to keep warm/dry during bad weather months. But cats love being outdoors. As long as you're their primary source of food/water they'll usually come back lol. Unless they adopt someone else or get eaten by a coyote

keep the litter box outside, food by the door. let em do his thing after keeping him local for a bit so he/she can establish a "home base"

my two guys are both indoors, but thats how i would start. ryan would be able to give better info probs haha

    haha basically, yea.

Would you be open to letting it in your garage? I'd probably start with a litterbox and feeding 2x a day in the garage. Let it free roam during the day and it will come back to eat

I built a catio for our cat. He brings in rodents from outside but hangs out outside mostly cause he wants to be one of the dogs.

definitely keep them indoors first and introduce to outdoors gradually to help establish where home is. They will do the rest, all they really want is food and rubs like dogs haha

Hmm...that's just it, I want an outdoor only cat

Good idea on the 'home' idea though I don't want to start any indoors.

Bronx hates cats, and I'm very allergic to them so that's already 2 strikes going against the indoor idea.

I kind of had that going on at the old house; I had a bowl I'd fill with cat food on the side of the house and I'd make sure they saw me fill it.

Over time, 2 strays got used to being around me often that I'd get to pet them if I wanted. The kittens that came afterward were still too skittish and I moved before I saw them grow up.

As for the garage idea? Huge pass.

Half will house Stephanie's car, other half will be my 'shop'.

    Hmmm...

My personal favorite is when 24v guys with rotary injection pumps think their truck that doesn't work is hot shit... Like nah I'm going to have to drop like 3-5k on a p7100 pump swap before I think about depending on this thing

    What all is left?

I'm at that "technically stage" where I "could" do it in a weekend... weld on perches/shock mounts, build brake lines, bleed, blah blah blah :D
