Just a note to introduce my self.
Bought my first Toyota in '86, and they were the daily driver for almost 30 years.
I put 90,000 on that '86 before it got rear ended and totaled in 89. Went out and bought an '89 SR5 extended cab the next day. Drove that one until 2001, and put 310,000 miles on that one.
In 2001 I bought a V6 Tacoma, Extended cab and put 340,000 miles on that one, and sold it in 2015 to buy A GMC Sierra Denali.
Switched to the GMC Sierra Denali in 2015, and never really liked it. It's a great truck and very powerful, but I just never "clicked" with it.
In all of those miles on my Toyota's, I replaced exactly one brake line. Everything else was just normal wear and tear maintenance. With my Denali, it's been constant maintenance. 35K miles and the brakes have been replaced twice, fuel pump failed, speedometer head had to be replaced, tie rod broke!! and now the fuel pump control module needs to be replaced.
I finally just had it and went out and found a nice low mileage Tacoma. I'll probably keep the Denali around to tow the horse trailer. We'll see. My previous Toyota's could "tow", but it wasn't their strong suit. 1200 lbs. of horse moving around back there used to get exciting some times.
I picked up a 2018 Tacoma Off Road, Double Cab, with 20K miles on the odometer this past week. This truck has everything, including a manual transmission as part of the "package". It's a lot different than my 2001 Tacoma, that for sure!! and I'm still getting used to a few features, but it instantly felt better than my Denali.
It won't be the daily driver, as I have an older Mini Cooper for that. When the Mini finally gives up the ghost, maybe then. It's going to see a lot of use during hunting season to get the dogs in and out of hunting areas, and I already like the fact that I can hide the guns from view behind the rear seat.
If anyone has any experience with towing horses with their Tacoma, I'd like to hear about it.
Nice forum here. It's already made it a quicker learning experience for me to use all of the electronics on the truck.
