I just picked up my 2021 Off Road Premium on Monday and I'm loving it!

Today though, when I started finally playing some music with significant low end, I noticed there was definitely no sub and the low end was pretty pitiful. The high end was nice and clear, which is nice, but I was honestly disappointed because I was expected the premium audio to sound a lot better.

This afternoon, I check out the inside of my friend's Tacoma that has premium audio and he has a big obvious "JBL" logo under is touch screen. Also, the same logo was on his door speakers. My screen and speakers don't have those logos.

I didn't even bother to check this when buying because everything else on the build is perfect and I was so excited after months of waiting. All the tech package and premium package stuff is there. Am I crazy, or did Toyota just forget to put premium audio in my truck? My original allocation sheet with the VIN clearly says "Premium Audio" and I still have the sheet.

Or is it possible this is my premium audio, and it just has a totally laughable low end? Any help would be appreciated.

I have put in Racesport gen3 leds I'm the process of doing a custom audio overhaul which will include Hybrid audio unity 6x9 mid bass, unity 3 inch mid driver in the dash and fiberglassing tweets in pilar soundeading all the doors, floors, and headliner and I will be using a helix processor to retain the factory radio and as far as subs I might make custom brackets to move rear seat foward a few inches to get a full size sub in there or I might just go with a pair of jl tw5 or tw3 and it will all be powered by jl audio HD amps or I might try out the new hybrid amps
That’s. It the premium audio. When I got mine they called it premium audio because I had the nicer radio with built in navigation and entune but no jbl

Yeah there are 3 levels of stereo

there’s the regular radio (smaller screen, no nav, etc
Then the entune premium (bigger screen, nav, etc)
Then the JBL system (the radio has the same features, but the truck has the JBL amp and speakers and sub.

And I thought I had done my homework. Haha oh well. The current sound isn’t terrible. It just means that upgrading the sound system has official moved to the top of my mod list. Thanks for the info ya’ll.

Going to start doing some digging around here for the best direction to go for upgrading this, but if anyone wants to save me time for a good direction to go I’m all ears.

Upgrading the non-JBL is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and easier than upgrading the JBL. And the JBL is absolutely not worth the however many thousand dollars extra it costs. You did yourself a favor

Premium audio sounds like trash. I just ordered the following to upgrade:

    • Kicker KS 6x9's
    • Kicker KS 6.5's
    • Kicker KX8005 5 channel amp
    • JL Audio Microsub 8"
    • AudioControl LC7i
    • Kicker C-Series 4AWG kit
    • Speed wire
    • New speaker wire
    • Tac0tunes add a 4 channel amp kit

I have a '20 TRD Sport and regular radio looks to be the same screen size as the Premium, except not having HD Radio and Navigation(?)

Just got my truck on Sunday and noticed the same thing, build sheet says premium audio… was expecting the jbl sub but didn’t get any jbl stuff.

maybe a good thing you didn't pay for the JBL system. Idk, if you'd be satisfied because some aren't and upgrade.

I had the same surprise and was bummed as well. But, reality is the system sounds good for what it is and if I really want some bump i'll just drive the other car. Haha!

Just throwing this out there if you do decide to add the kicker tweeters.

Always search for better deals. Hundreds of people here are clicking on the first link they see for them and paying more than they should.

I got mine 4 years ago and paid $80 shipped.

The research for some added bass has started, I went from a Rockford fosgate dual voice coil 8” sub taking 1000 watts to no sub at all… it’s ok I’m sure there are plenty of options.

No new tweets for the dash? Easiest and cheapest mod for a sound upgrade by far.
