BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020 M340i, M340i xDrive, 540i, 540i xDrive, X3 M40i, 2020-2021 X4 M40i, 745Le xDrive, 2019-2021 Z4 M40i, and 2020-2021 Toyota Supra vehicles. During engine start, the engine management software may cause loss of braking assist.

 

Its possible it's already been said somewhere on this thread but aren't the new supras just bmw z4s with toyota tags?

 

I plan on getting one of these in January. My biggest concern is the number of low mileage ones up for sale. I’m talking less than a 1000 miles and marked as used.

 

I'm just curious, why are you shopping used, rather than new?

 

I’m not. I’m just finding a lot of used ones. The 2021 had a solid jump in horsepower, and I may hold out a touch longer in hope of a manual (it’ll never happen)

 

Totally understand. I'm in the same boat. And seeing how the new Z pans out.

 

hahhahaha!! It’s a manual. Definitely has my interest as well .

 

Toyota designed the exterior (not a trivial task with a lot of windtunnel time). But yes the cars are assembled by Magna in Austria in the same plant as the Mercedes G-class, on a line optimized for lower-volume production, under contract with BMW. For once "JDM" means absolutely nothing on a Supra.

 

I think SuperspeedersRob bought one, and the car had all the desire of Tess Holliday, no one wanted to rent it so he sold it.

I rent returned a GR supra that a rented for 2 days. I am a die hard Toyota nut case.

I was really disappointed.

It just wasn't a fun car to drive. It was certainly fast, but it didn't feel fast at all.

I gunned it at a light with my wife, and she was almost bored. She literally said, "Is that it?".

It took it for a spin on some twisty mountain roads, and it didn't feel very nimble at all.

The infotainment sucks. The sound system sucks. The interior sucks. The exterior is alright. It felt really cramped. The engine is one of the worst sounding engines I have ever heard.

I have been driving Toyota vehicles my whole life. Whether it's Toyota or Lexus. I always immediately know all the functions (cruise control, wipers, signals, how to open gas, how to turn on) because its all usually the same. I was almost confused by the switches and knobs. I know this was made by BMW, but it is clearly not a Toyota. Toyota usual has the skip and rewind buttons clearly on the steering wheel. I didn't figure out how to skip a track on the driver's wheel until the second day. It's a very cumbersome way of skipping a track.

Also, no manual was a bad decision too.
