Thanks for the kind words. I'm not far from Maryland, in fact PA shares a rather famous border. What time's dinner? We could chat about it over some fine cuts. ;)

LOL... I was thinking his meal looked pretty good too. But Utah doesn't share a border with the modern world, much less PA.

Good morning everyone!! I had a busy day yesterday - crewed a hot air balloon flight in the morning, put a coat of paint on the new clapboards on the stable and then crewed another flight last evening. We have two more flights scheduled for today but the winds will probably cause us to cancel. I'll put a second coat of paint on the stable, though. Life is good.

    Be safe out there!

Uhg, today is garage roof tearoff day. I was supposed to do it yesterday but it rained in the morning until around noon. So we just got all of our grocery shopping done and bbq'd some steaks. But today is the day. It has at least 2 layers and I know some bad wood as it's been leaking, have to be careful to not fall through in places.

Be careful Greg. My days of being on roof are over, however I can still be part of the ground crew getting rid of the old shingles and nails.

Another easy day lined up. We were going to have chicken last night but the wife wanted carry out. So tonight will be chicken on the Smokefire. I do have to clean the grill and griddle today. Then again I might just clean the griddle and leave the grill for tomorrow after I do the chicken today.

    Morning all:
X2 on being careful Greg, 2 layers of shingles sounds like a lot of work and a lot of nails!

Yesterday was a major weed waking day, today I need to cut up a large branch that came down in a small opening I maintain, and a small tree that came down where I mow at the pond, then on to mowing the yard. Hopefully the weed waking is done for this year, might need to mow 1 more time, trying to get things caught up before archery season starts.

Enjoyed a nice 30-mile bike ride. Juvenile Diabetes Foundation fundraiser. They have different course lengths, but I opted for the 30 miles as I didn't want to go too long from home and just haven't been riding that much. 2019 I did the 60-mile course in just under four hours, about 16 mph avg speed. Lack of conditioning got me as I did it this time with an 11 mph avg speed. About 2 hours 45 riding time.

It was a little chilly early in the morning. 51F was brisk with no jacket, but once riding, I created enough body heat. Just felt good to get out there and ride!

In two weeks in the Alziehmers Foundation Ride. It looks like a fun one—Salt Lick (local BBQ is hosting the finish line food). Kurt, there is still time to sign up (20, 40, 60, 80-mile ride). I'll sign up for 40 miles, so I am back in time to enjoy the BBQ! I've had a few friends pass from Alziehmers, which is horrible. With Lewy Body Dementia, you have some memories on good days, but Alzheimer's is something else.

A good friend's dad ran his own trucking company for years. One morning Dad is nowhere to be found, well his son took over the trucking company, but Dad was convinced he had a load to deliver to Seattle. I went down the yard, keycodes still worked, and got a tractor and trailer hooked up. He pulled out of the yard, locked up behind him, and was on the road.

California Highway Patrol stopped him, 60 miles from Home. He explained to the officer he had a load to be delivered. CHP noted s safe and polite driver. Thankfully the officer asked for his manifest (he didn't have it but had a good story. He left his clipboard in the office). Thankfully the officer was polite and kind, so the officer had him open the back (it was empty). By then, his son and daughter-in-law arrived to take Dad and the truck back home. Son changed all the door locks. CHP Officier said had he not gotten a detailed call, he would have just stopped and been convinced it was an odd prank as his Dad was so animated and clear about delivering a load of product.

A little something every chance we get.
:pumpkin: Good afternoon Porch folks! Slow start this AM - helping the wife bag up the Potato Vine out front so she should plant new plants. Yay. Can see my up lights on the wall again. I swear if you planted that stuff at one end of the the Sahara, and Kudzu on the other; the desert wouldn't last a month! She finished and I mulched it up and watered.

Good luck on the roof, and be careful Greg. I too am not allowed on roofs anymore. It's the up and down thing more than being up there. :anonymous:

Thanks Tom, but I will pass. If I had a bike anymore, I'd have to ride it. Then, I'd have to put it somewhere when I'm done. Then, I'd have to maintain the thing! I need the room for the golf clubs I don't get enough use out of. Maybe this fall.....

So, after the gardening, on to the Taco antenna mount. Remember I said I was "stupidly optimistic" or like that? "Stupid" is the right word. When the bezel nut came Thursday, I took a look at fitting it on to this stub.....

    20210926_111017.jpg

That wasn't going to happen. So, the interweb search, and actually ended up on a GREAT thread right back here on TW. Have to search for "antenna base removal", not "antenna removal". Seems every Taco in the world has these corroded things, and cutting them off is the only option. So, why doesn't it fall through the fender now? The answer is down here. Remove the mudflap and liner bolts.

    20210926_110846.jpg

Pry the liner back (disturbing some plastic holders I will get to later - I didn't break them), and down here at the bottom....

    20210926_113512.jpg
    20210926_113504.jpg

Remove that bolt, and out comes the base - after you cut the wire! Now that I am positive what it looks like, I can confidently order that too. Right?

    20210926_114718.jpg
    20210926_114700.jpg

Well, "fits your Tacoma" has this thing with TWO different wire ends; the banana plug you typically see on antenna wire, OR, some square connector. That square connector is, of course, in the passenger A pillar if I have it. So, clean and showered, back to the truck to check.

    20210926_151920.jpg
    20210926_151910.jpg

Yup, I have the one with the odd plug - gotta love Toyota. Ordered, and I can wait until my guy finishes out the paint to install everything, so to make it easy on him. And I will be using some silver anti-seize on that stupid assembly when I do!

But yesterday was a great day relaxing and watching college ball! Hook Em!

Well I started the day mowing the lawn, then removed the cupola from the roof, a ridge vent will be going on in its place.20210926_110214.jpg
Then I trimmed the neighbors oak tree back from over the garage, second time I've done this in 7 years.
Then it was on to shingle removal.
    20210926_122052.jpg
3 hours later and one side was done. I'm only doing one side per day. And that kicked my butt!
    20210926_140717.jpg
My Betty was a trooper and helped by doing the cleanup so I could work on the wood replacement.
    20210926_141400.jpg
Then it was on to rotted wood removal and replacement. I also evicted a colony of ants!
    20210926_160309.jpg
All the wood I used was all salvaged, mostly pine but a few red cedar boards too.
    20210926_190945.jpg
    20210926_190957.jpg
The good news is a the debris will fit in my 5x10 tandem axle trailer so that means one trip to the dump and one fee.
    20210926_191430.jpg
And man I gotta tell ya, this 61 year old man is whupped! My back is very fatigued. Ibuprofen, a meal, a shower, and in bed to get the muscles to relax. I worked right up until dark today. Tomorrow is another day, I hope my back let's me finish the tearoff. 2 layers of shingles means a lot of nails. I don't think the second half of the garage will need nearly as much wood replaced. I won't have my cleanup helper tomorrow as she will be at work taking it easy and recovering. I took the day off work tomorrow to finish this prep work up.

    Evening all:
You're getting there Greg, when I put shingles on a board roof I think the nails found every gap in the boards. I think half of the roof is glued together because I pitched every hole that I put in the shingles due to the nail not going into the wood, been on for 14 years and no problem so far.

Dang, I'm happy with this round of reverse-sear world! Ribeye to split for us, smoked to 110* for about and hour, then let it set while I make the potatoes.

Then a quick minute per side at 700* - dang that's fun!

    Tender!

You see, this is why I had the house paid off, all major repairs completed (and most of the minor ones) and bought a new truck all before I retired.

It’s called retirement, not work your ass off until you die.

Yup, I'm getting ready for retirement, I'll never have to do this roof again. If it ever needs to be redone I'll hire it out. I'm still a working member of the rat race.

Seems like a power antenna would be an inexpensive after market add on product. I just removed my antenna al together and listen to XM when I am in the Tacoma.

Make sure you have decent air intake at the soffit so the heat can exhaust out the ridge vent. If you have side vents in the attic space cover them over so no air can come in that way. When I had our roof replace 3 years ago there was so much that I learned. I did not know that there are undergraduate studies where ventilation is part of the degree study.

Looks mouth watering. We may have ribeye tonight but I am leaning towards pork chops.

Today is haircut day and clean the pellet grill.

The new monitor came yesterday and is installed. Waiting on a decent sale on a graphics card that will fit in the small form factor tower PC. The pandemic has driven the price of almost everything up.

Looks like I have a serial killer cat, 3 voles and a mouse "GIFTED" outside the door this morning, she must really like me!

Buy a lift Mike, you aren't getting any younger! :)
I had mentioned it before, when I built the garage I was contemplating putting a pit in it but didn't, wish I would have.

Me too, but things don't always go as planned!!!

:pumpkin: Good Morning Porchites! Back to the greenhouse roof lift today - decided on the other stuff yesterday, in favor of more clouds and open stores if I need something. That's the list for the day, after :pccoffee:/

That's me Mike! Slow to get down to the creeper, comical to get off it! And least it wears me out! o_O

All I really listen to is XM, but now and then I like to find local info, so the goal was just to put back what I had - I had NO idea this was such a stupid design; reminded me of replacing a blower motor in a 66 Catalina. Required cutting the firewall with a sabre saw! I might go with a short antenna though - discovered all that corrosion (stamped steel mast part, pot metal bezel base, aluminum nut) really ruins the reception!
