Sounds like you’re getting better mileage than Weesa.

    ARB Awning Install

Today was mounting the ARB awning. This is the new deluxe awning with the led light strip in it. Only negative I can give it is the light has a cigarette lighter plug instead of a USB plug. Pretty simple install, put mounts on crossbars, put awning on mounts, done. It’s nice to have shade and weather protection. I’ve also got the awning room for bug free living area if I’m stationary for a couple of days. Not sure if I would add it just for a single night stop. I guess we will see how that works out as this goes on.

Enjoy. I tried a few DIY tarps for shade with various success. I still carry two sizes of the Kelty Tarps and many ground tarps (harbor fright). The ARB awning and those like it work well. For the guy lines on my ARB I use paracord (orange) and Niteize figure 9s. This makes guying it out simple and easily adjustable.

I have the room attachment too and really like it. I'd advise putting another tarp underneath it depending on the terrain you are in. I have a couple tiny holes in the floor of my room attachment from my first couple uses.

I have a 6x8' green poly tarp for a sacrificial ground tarp. Right now I have the supplied guy lines, they seem rather large for the intended purpose. I was already thinking paracord would be a better guy line. I have a 8x10' tarp to use as a rain fly over the open tailgate for rainy weather. I think a Kelty tarp would be a much better solution but they are out of stock everywhere I checked. I also need to remember HF for tarps, I bought these at Tractor Supply but HF should be cheaper for a ground clothe that’s going to get trashed.

Just do it. You need some shade out there in the desert.

Protip when it's time to put away the awning. Keep the guy lines in place while you bring up the vertical support poles. Once they are stowed then you can release the guy lines at the awning tie points and roll it up to put it away. Much easier this way.

Sorry I’ve been neglecting my own build thread. I’ve been trying to get yard work done because I’m leaving for Overland Expo East next week. It’s been raining so the grass isn’t mowed. I’m still packing the truck and trying to sort out gear. The sleeping platform and awning are gtg so I am at least half way there lol.

I don’t have a dual battery system yet so no 12v fridge. No armor other than the factory skid, no winch, crappy OEM Goodyear tires. It’s going to be an adventure!

I was going up to north GA and picking up the southern part of a dual sport motorcycle route called the Smokey Mountain 1000 but now the extended forecast is calling for rain Monday-Thursday for north GA and west NC. :goingcrazy: There are several water crossings along this part of the route that are no problem normally, when it rains they are not crossable. So I’m heading up to the Asheville, NC area by interstate. Hopefully I can go to Mt. Mitchell and a couple of other places around there if the weather isn’t too bad before I head to VA for Expo. More updates soon.
