Hey there, I own a 2014 Tacoma 4.0 and recently came across a leak at the transfer case. Nothing is dripping, but you can see there is quite a bit of fluid creeping around the bottom of the case. Since i wasnt exactly sure where the leak had originated from, I had the dealer take a look at it and they said the Tcase input shaft seal is leaking and they want $1300 to fully repair it. Now I am no beginner to doing my own mechanical work, but I have never really gotten into anything regarding transfer cases. From what I can see, it doesnt look too difficult to remove from the truck. But my main concern is what to do when I have it out. I think I have found the correct parts but want to be sure of the process. If it is something to be better left to the pros, is $1300 a lot? Cause it sure feels like a lot. According to the dealer, the parts alone are gonna be $330. I also looked around for DIY videos and didnt really see anything specific to my vehicle. So is this something the driveway mechanic can do in an afternoon? If so, are there any special tools Ill need, like a press or puller? Appreciate the help.
