Rock sliders that bolt just to the frame face vs L bracket mounts?

    Hi All,

I'm starting to look into some rock sliders and came across the RSG set, I like the look and slight angle and they seem to have good reviews.

    https://rsgmetalworks.com/collectio...sliders-with-top-plate?variant=31779700408383

I noticed under the truck they seem to flat/butt mount to the frame's surface with no brackets to attach to the underside/bottom of the frame rail like some others I've seen like Cali Raised, SOS, etc.

Do the sliders the have an L type bracket offer anymore strength when attached to the frame vs just the face mounting sliders?

    Thanks

Frame mounts that have an L shape will have 2 planes to spread stress across making them stronger as a result. Also more surface purchase area on the frame makes the connection to the frame stronger.

The other set I had in mind was 4x Innovations 3rd gen set. Seems like that have a rather lengthy L bracket running down their set.

My choice would be the sliders with the L style brackets.

I wouldn’t want that much weight on just the side of the frame rails. Especially with the open box these trucks have. I would think if you’re using them as sliders you’ll have bent frame rails. Look like expensive running boards to me

The predator steps mount to the thin metal of the cab with a few bolts and those hold up just fine. The frame is, I believe, ⅛" thick hardened steel. I don't think there is any need to be concerned, especially because sliders bolt up across a long section of the frame.

It’s a lot of weight to drop on the the side of the frame rails. If you wheel, get something with more support. If you parking lot then the RSG are what you want. I run SOS sliders and have drug/dropped the weight of the truck on them and no issues. The frame rails are open and thin, I want all the structural support I can get when I’m loading a few thousand pounds on it.

Have you looked into MobTown Off Road?
they have bolt on sliders that wrap around the frame rails. I made my own due to cost and shipping to :canada:, otherwise I would have bought from them.

On a side note, having made my own bolt on sliders, I think bolt on is plenty strong, but like everything my views are subject to scrutiny, and YMMV :)
not looking to start something, just giving my un-solicited opinion.

Never done business with them, just read several threads that have popped here and how people are trying to get their $$ back. :(

Hate to see that happen to any small biz in these days.

    Yes, MobTown is gone.

Came here to say the same as others, don't get cheap sliders that aren't the L-bracket style unless you want a bent frame.

Caught me off guard a little with the L bracket vs u-bolt as I originally ran MT sliders on my 80 (no c-channel frame) and when I got my MT sliders (L brackt) for the Taco and poking around under the new truck quickly realized why.

    since you asked........ :D

    I'm quite proud of them.
Built them twice since the first one's were too close to the pinch weld, so I cut them off the frame plate and re-welded lower.
I used 1boredclerk's Free DXF file( he's a TW member ) to have the plate cut at a plasma place, and the rest was done by me.

Those are very nice looking. I have aspirations to make my own. Just need to get the time. I have a few other major projects on the go at the moment.

Self built is something to be proud of. Thanks for sharing.:sawzall::welder:
