I will agree with you. I heard a YouTuber fisherman say that.
I also saw another YouTuber do a catch & cook with a Bunker…. No one is making Bunker tasty!!

I’ve seen Hickory Shad, not a gizzard shad though. Hickory shad are very colorful. I attached a photo of a Bunker/Menhaden

 

They sell bunker oil in tackle shops around here and I have a friend that didn’t talk to me for about a month and has yet let me near him again if he has a drink.

 

I bet smoked bunker would be good lol

 

On top of the coals and wood chunks in the fire box at 370° for 16hrs sprayed with kerosene every 2hrs. Oh and don’t forget to wrap it after the first hour, don’t need too much smoke.

 

Sounds like the foil would be better

 

After using a lighted fillet table there are certain fish and sizes I refuse to eat and I won't cut them without thick rubber gloves.
Some things cannot be unseen.

 

Bunker are a Keystone species in the Atlantic. Every predator eats them. Main source of food for Striper. That said, Striper are delicious!
Also, if you take supplements with fish oil, I.e. Omega 3, Omega 6. The fish oil is Bunker.

 

Tape worms? Ive seen some that have them..

 

Let's not ruin many fine meals by elaborating further.

 

3rd weekend in a row, only one tonight though and not the biggest by any means, but we took one of the girls and she was ecstatic. So that made it worth while in my book.

 

Fishing from the beach next to a groin. Using sand fleas as bait, Tog love them. Almost every cast was a bite…

 

It is Salmon season up here in Washington. Chinook and a Coho

 

Haven't been out a ton this year but caught this one last week, one of the nicer browns I've ever caught condition wise

I caught a parasite free, small barracuda.

Gonna panko fry that guy... eye eye captain!

Got some squirrels and some big eye scad too.

 

Black Sea Bass. Excellent table fare!
