power for alpine crossover?

After much searching on this forum, I'd decided to change out the front stock speakers to see if there is any umprovement (possible new HU, amp and sub if there is no improvement). I chosed Alpine SPR-17S component speakers. My HU is a Non-JBL w 6CD changer.


I cant seem to find any thread on this so my question is where do i tap in to power my crossover? Do I pull wire fom the head unit or can I tap from some wires in the door panel? Can I use the wire harness that went into the stock speakers? Hope my questions are not stupid but I just want to make sure I do it right.

Just run a 4 gauge wire from the battery to a fuse box inside the cab and get your power from there...so in the future if you decide you want to run a amp your power wire is already there

also don't run your crossover wires on the same side as the power, you might get some alternator wine.

 

Your crossover receives the speaker input from your HU or amp... basically it's a speaker level input. That's where your crossover gets it's "power". It doesn't require 12 volts.

You can use the factory speaker wires but that'll require you to splice into them or Crutchfield sells adaptors that plug into the factory speaker connectors.

While you are upgrading your front speakers, you're not going to realize the full benefit of the upgrade if you use your factory HU. It doesn't have enough power to drive them to their full potential... that's going to require an upgraded HU at least and preferably an amp too.

Are you aware that you'll need speaker adaptors to mount your components? And while your at it, go ahead and "deaden" your doors too. Deadening your doors and the back panel makes a big difference. Good luck!
