Should be federal and state tax credits depending on which state you live. Also most states don't tax EV's at point of sale.

We need a Lexus truck. I’d go for that, maybe, to impress my wife with how classy I can be.

LX series (300 series Land Cruiser) coming. Should be plenty opulent.

While I can agree with the premise that an EV doesn't pollute, I know the electric generation is still fueled by coal or natural gas.

The EV just displaces its emissions to the generation plant.

The videos do not provide the full picture of the "green" factor of EV.

The marketeers are doing a very good job of smoke screening the actual impact.

    Believe what you will..........

Not all is. There is also nuclear, solar, wind, hydro. 60% though is produced by fossil fuels.

Incorrect . Yes the ev displaces the burning of fossil fuels to the power plant. Undisputed. However, burning the same fossil fuel in a power plant to make electricity , then sending it over the grid to ur ev charging in the garage will yield more miles travels per unit burned at the plant vs in the engine.

that scenario I described assume all electric is generated by fossil fuels only (worse case). But it’s not. We generate from nuclear, hydro/renewables too so the reality is that it’s absolutely clear that driving ev does in fact save emissions.

In fact , you would still save money and pollution if you buy an EV and only charge it up with a large gas electric generator that u fill up with ur favorite gasoline or diesel .

If the government has to incentivize electric cars then they aren't standing on their own merits.

When the pros outweigh the cons everybody will be driving them which will be soon enough.

You can't replace 250,000,000 million vehicles on the road overnight.

Luckily, the government doesn’t subsidize the fossil fuel industry.

The Government subsidizes tons of things, including the oil industry.

Rivian is indeed unproven. Ones tolerance for risk should be considered before any purchase. Unproven power plant? Do you mean electric motors, batteries? Both of those are pretty well proven. Source of fuel? You mean electricity?
If you're willing to learn, watch this.

I live in a major metropolitan area. The point is EV's with my major insurance company are cheaper to insure than a Tacoma. Different cities have different rates. I don't know how people afford to live in San Francisco. But, I've heard EVs are very popular there, so somebody is able to pay the insurance. Just being an EV doesn't make the car more expensive to insure.

Another thing to consider is today's EV's are not for everybody. There are a lot of edge and mainstream use cases which make them the wrong car to buy. If somebody's use case falls into one of them, well it sucks to be them. It doesn't mean EVs are bad for everyone, just some people.

The used/new car market is fucked right now, but long term it will go back to normal. I've not seen any talk about 6 months to a year to repair a Tesla in the EV forums. Links to credible and current sites would be appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with waiting and educating yourself in the meantime. Stay current most of your discussion points are out of date.

    I refuse to learn JK.

I have yet to see a retail Battery Electric pick up on the road. IMO that's unproven.

I'll admit to not having paid much attention to Rivian. Then this came across my youtube feed. I like it, I like it a lot. Oh and the guy is a Tacoma driver so that provides some interesting contrast.

I do have to say, those headlights ...I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing that I can get used to. Maybe they have an amazing beam pattern and we'll all be jealous we don't have lights like that.

They ruin the look of the truck, but guess they really want the Rivian to stand out. If that thing is successful, I bet the headlights will be the first thing that get revised in subsequent years.

The Rivian looks like Kia's version of the Ridgeline with a a set of Jeep Wrangler take offs.
