Haha actually with the 4.30 rear end the 2.7L does have good low end torque. Beat a V6 off the line in a video posted here. :D
Could have been worse OP, could have been a V6 timing gear cover leak now that is a big deal.

My Nissan had some bad timing chains out of the gate. 1 day in the shop 10 years ago under warranty, and another day when the fuel gauge sender went out. That’s it.

Good chance you’ll find a few little issues right out of the gate and then be good for many years.

Stuff happens. The true test is how the dealer and company on the whole deal with it.

I could complain about my frame rotting out, but that Toyota gave me a new frame plus all this other stuff and a rental for free is the big deal.

Same thing happened with my '18 at the same mileage if I remember right. But I spotted the leak on the video they sent me when it was in for the service.

5.5 years here and just a battery. And most say don't buy 1st year, lol.
I've driven a loaner 2021 when my truck was in for undercoat campaign that didn't drive as good as my 2016. This perception that later years are superior is bs. It's the same truck, minor changes. I have added a fox suspension and airbag lift system and better tires which trumps any new one imo.
2nd gen had timing cover leak issues also.
If a seal and a brake light leak which is covered under warranty keeps you awake at night you should be ubering.
There is a million parts on here that can break.

Don't let them off the hook for that. They picked the supplier.

I can relate to poor quality, I had my Tacoma less than a year when the shift knob became loose. I had to slip the collar ring down, turn the knob one full rotation, and slip the collar back up. That’s 15 seconds of my life I’ll NEVER get back. Had my Tacoma 2 years now and zero other issues. But that experience man, it soured me on Tacoma’s. POS truck.

Only 5.5 years, what a piece of junk. My battery lasted 9.5 years. Sheesh..

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Axle seal sure beats the countless Chrysler/Chevy/Ford products getting engines before the first 20k of life

There's always people that no matter what they buy will never be happy with it. You need to weigh the pros and cons of a purchase not just focus on one detail

I had a dirty intermittent access cab door switch and a steering wheel system squeak...does that account for poor quality control. Btw i thought i had a center console lit latching click...it actually was my stanly tape measure floating around in there hitting the sides of the console when i turned a corner.:frusty:
