I have a 2018 TRD OR that has never been off road unless you count boat launches and camp sites. I purchased it mainly because I liked the softer ride. Someone recently made a significant offer for it even though I'm not actively looking to sell.

It seems like an SR5 would be a better fit for me. Does anyone think I would regret selling mine and getting a new SR5?

I picked the Limited as mine will not see serious off-roading. Zero complaints. Soft ride and better fuel economy.

Test drive an SR5 to see if you like it and then go from there. An SR5 only runs about $1900 less if equipped the same, so after all the hassle you probably are not going to save much money.

Yep. I bought an Off Road Tacoma with no intention of off-roading. Even installed a 12K Harbor Freight Apex winch. Probably will never use that either, but I just like to play with it and it just looks cool.

One thing I do miss, and I seem to be in the minority, is a key. I can deal with a little stiffer ride seeing as I haul a camper. I'm trying to think of the things I might miss going From trd to sr5.

There is a reason they make a 2wd "Off Road". The stickers sell the trucks.

I live in Vermont. A 2wd becomes a turd in October and remains one until April. You're probably right about the stickers.

I feel sad for your truck. It sounds neglected.

I’ve owned a 2016 SR5 and a 2020 OR. The ride quality on the road is identical or very close. I have no idea why people constantly claim that the OR is “softer” on the road. It makes no sense to me in theory nor in practice.

Get a 2wd SR5 or SR with the options you actually use. You can always swap out the shocks for ones you prefer. The rest of the suspension is identical.

Not me. My OR was off-road within two weeks of my buying it brand new. I generally have it in the dirt on a trail in the mountains or the desert or in the snow (when we have it) once every six weeks. Just last Saturday I had a free afternoon so my GF and I spent most of it exploring some trails out in the Mojave.

For me buying an OR Taco was to replace my previous 4x4 which was too small (or my GF's kid was too tall) and with 220K miles on it, I no longer felt confident taking if out into the woods or the desert. Oh and mine has an actual key too LOL!

Should you sell or keep? That's up to you, however if I were in your position I'd probably get rid of it. You can always replace it with something else which has a 'smooth ride' if that's your priority.

I lived in Vermont for 10 years (moved from NJ so yea I'm a flatlander lol). First thing I did when I moved was trade in my vehicle for a 4WD pickup. Only way to guarantee getting through the winter and mud season. The most off-roading I did was my friend's 500 ft dirt and gravel driveway and all the dirt roads in town. Now I'm in Florida and my Taco is my daily driver. No need for a 4x4 any more so I didn't spend the money.

Just saw this. I amend my answer with, “Get a 4wd.” Or get a awd cross over suv unless you really need to haul or tow something heavy. They ride softer and drive better in snow. I loved my Subaru until I acquired my 18’ boat.

Depends on what you mean by off road. I do a lot of fishing and own a cabin up in the north Georgia mountains. I spend a lot of time on gravel roads around the cabin and old forest service roads in search of trout water. But I never intend to do any hard core off roading or rock crawling.

I did a lot of crazy off road shit in my younger years back in the 70's in my FJ-55. But at my age I am content knowing I can if I need to.

Wouldn't be against it but not actively trying to offroad. I just took what I could get honestly.
