Now that I own a Tacoma, I of course notice them much more on the road, etc.. After taking note one to the other, I really like the side rearview mirrors that have the LED light strip running through them.

If I am correct they act as side marker running lights, but also have sequential turn signal features as well.

Question is, has anyone put together a replacement mirror kit or a piece by piece parts list that converts 2nd gen to a reliable version of this futuristic look?

The later model TRD Sport trucks have the turn signals in the side mirrors so theoretically you could find a set of sport mirrors and use them but not all trucks are prewired so you may have to run wiring for them. I think there's a thread about it on here somewhere.

"Edit" here's one thread about adding them.

Nice! so everything is the same fit-wise, so one would just have to worry about the wiring side of the install? I'll check the link out. Thank you

I did the whole enchilada as I wanted heated mirrors, color match, turn signals and puddle lights. Lots of wiring, and had to use 2013 4 runner mirrors. Cool as all get out, but a big job. PM me if you are interested in going that direction...

Do you have part numbers etc? It sounds like you did exactly what I want to do. If you are able, a few pics would be nice. And could you elaborate on the more difficult parts?

So this was a while back and I did not take pictures or keep notes for a write up; however, that said I can give some tips. I bought 2013 4 runner mirrors-twice, as there is a mid year change that no one said anything about and the late ones are different! The early and 2012, 11, 10 etc. fit, but not the late 2013 mirrors. I used my factory Tacoma perches (the part that mounts to the doors) and the upper mirror part to the 4 runner-yes, there is a lot of dis-assembly/re assembly and wires must be cut. The mirrors and perches assemble like they were meant for each other.

I had the factory wiring in my truck for the sport mirrors, so that was an easy rewire for the turn signals and mirror functions. I ran wires for the puddle lights and mirrors. The puddle lights went into the dome light circuit which I think I found behind the radio. The heat was from scratch and I used a fancy expensive timed relay so they turn on and run for 20 minutes and shut off no matter what the switch says and a switch from MESO (I think). I ended up buying factory mirrors the second time (expensive) vs the ebay purchase the first time (cheap). The cover is a factory Toyota color match part. Change the bulbs to the puddle lights BEFORE you button it up as the lights are dim and yellow. I wish I had as I have yet to figure out how to get to them again... took me most of two days with all the wiring and such. Sorry not more for you but I never intended a write up... just kept track of the the pit falls. This is a middling to easy conversion just lots to do and some thinking with the mirror dis-assembly and wire plug changes from the 4 Runner to the Tacoma plug.
