My registration expires on October 8th. Went online when I got to VA in June, printed out the change of address form and snail mailed it back to them. Got my registration renewal in the beginning of Sept. Went online and renewed it, paid the $264 on sept 10th, payment deducted from my account on the 14th. Cool. Let’s wait for my shit to arrive. Check the mail today, nothing. So I call, get the auto call back option so I wait for them to call me back. They do. Speak to a nice lady (serious) and she informs me that she see’s the transaction occurring on my account but it’s showing a zero balance. Ok, cool, so payment processed and tags were sent? No…it’s showing a zero balance but, not payment was made. Wait, huh? How can I have a zero balance on my account but still show that a payment wasn’t received? Oh, we see you made payment but our system didn’t update so your tabs weren’t sent, you need to call out field support office at 916-657-8035. So I call…we’ll, when there a large. All volume, they tell you then proceed to hang up on you.

Finally after just spamming the redial button I get put on hold for 50 minutes only to get told to send a copy of the receipt, the bank draft and a copy of my current insurance to them.

what the actual fuck kind of shit show operation is CA running when the state literally has the top IT talent housed within its borders.

the mere fact I have to print a change of address form and snail mail it in with a postage stamp os beyond me. Even VA, as southern as it is, has more robust systems in place to virtually do everything.

    so, #fuckCA

Sounds eerily similar to what @uphlifted went through when he bought his bike. All these automated systems and it’s been horrible for most people I know.

My own experience with DMV is that I can’t renew my license online. The online system asks for the last 4 of your ssn along with your DL#. Apparently my SSN isn’t correct in their system. And when I speak to them, all the copies of my forms dating back to my original drivers license application from when I was 18 has the SSN redacted- something about a law change some years back where they aren’t allowed to access SSN info anymore. So nobody can tell me what’s wrong with my SSN and they can’t update it in their system either even if I show proof of my correct number. I only learned all this because I personally know people that work at the DMV. So now I have to mail a check and cross my fingers or go there in person and wait in line just so they could tell me, “you know you could do this online.”

    :bananadead:

    Ah, bureaucracy….

CA DMV and their archaic policies are obnoxious as fuck. I was stationed in WA and they demanded I drive to CA to get my then 5yo car smogged. I had the title transferred to WA and said fuck you to my home state.

Fast forward 7 years and I buy a Jeep DJ5 off ebay in the Bay Area, and try to transfer it while I’m there on leave, since it’s my home of record and I’m OCONUS. There is a flag on my file with CA and they inform me that I owe nearly $5k in back registration and fees because my car was never put on a non-op, and I had late fees and back registration to pay. TF you say?!? They tried to get me for 7 years of shit on a car titled and registered in another state. It took me 2yrs to get those bastards unfucked.

My suggestion is to get your shit transferred out of CA.

Haha, that blows. I called the DMV in Alaska to try to track down the title/registration I mailed in that USPS says they lost. Nice lady tells me they received it on the 7th while USPS says they lost it on the 6th. Nice to know I'm not screwed without the title to the Honda I bought. I asked about my BMW I bought from a dealer in early June and she was able to tell me that they didn't receive the title application until August 19th. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll get my titles, plates and registration for both of them.

My buddy retired from the CG in CA in 2019 as a Oregon resident and home of record. Fast forward to 2021 and he gets a notice that CA has placed a lien on him for unpaid state income taxes. He can’t open a CC account, can’t apply for a loan or mortgage because of this. He goes round and round with this shit system they have in place to unfuck it all and spends about 9 months getting it unfucked.

the mere fact I have to snail mail everything into a state where Silicon Valley and the hub for IT industry resides is beyond me.

I had a similar issue, my last duty station before getting sent over seas was in CA,
So I parked my truck in a friends backyard and non oped it.

Three years later I go to the DMV to get the paperwork to transfer to AZ,
CA DMV wanted 3 or 4 grand for an 89 Ford Ranger that was maybe worth 2k.

I told them to their face I wasnt paying it and trailered the truck to AZ,
Titled, plated and insured no problem

Lol. I got a tax bill from CA in 2011 for unpaid taxes. They tried the same shit with me. I changed my state of residence in 2008 at ETS... got IOUs from 2001-2008 for my non-resident period.

Perhaps, I mean, CA still uses the pony express for anything related to um, stuff we shall not speak of and requires you to stamp the envelope and brand it with your cattles brand for authenticity

Nope, was not a resident for the period they billed me for. When the state is in their financial death throws, they go for anything they can.
