Advice for accessories

I'm finally getting my truck in a couple weeks (2021 DCSB TRD OR MT), and want to add these things right away:

Bed mat
Blackout package
All weather floor liners
Tonneau cover
Cargo divider

Do you recommend getting the above things as OEM or know of a better aftermarket product? Please include a reason (huge price savings for virtually same product, better value, simplicity, certain features, you've had it without complaints, etc etc)

Also looking for advice on these things based off people's experiences:

TRD pro wheels
RTT and mount

I'll refrain from asking the cliche question "what's the biggest tire I can fit" but I hope this post wasn't too cliche either

 

I have the OEM all weather liners but they came with my truck. They look cool but I'd probably go with Weathertech or Husky if I were looking. Both offer more coverage and aren't as flimsy, not that the OEM ones are bad at all. Not sure on cost.

I also have the OEM tonneau cover which also came with my truck. I like it and it does what I need it to. If I didn't have it I may consider Paragon because I don't typically like tonneau covers and so I like to frequently remove mine. It's as simple as one bolt with the OEM and even easier with Paragon.

As for RTT we went with the Roam Vagabond. It is basically the exact same thing as the Tepui but the Roam has windows in the rain fly, comes with a gear net and boot bags, and is still $200 cheaper (at least when we purchased ours). We've had it for two summers now and have ridden out several storms with it.

As for the mount, it depends what you want. We went with KB Voodoo Hi Rise crossbars because I wanted something low profile. KB Voodoo is also the only one that makes racks compatible with tonneau covers. It doesn't work with all of them but it works with the OEM one and similar ones. Fair warning though: with this combination we ended up having to go to Menards and get longer bolts to mount the tent with. The ones that came with the Roam we're about 1/2" too short. I emailed them about this so I'm not sure if they changed this or not.

 

For myself Bed Mat was OEM (best around) from my dealer.

I did my own blackout package, bought everything off eBay from Toyota dealers (cheaper than my dealership).

Definitely choose weather tech or husky liners. I have weather tech and they make Toyota’s mats look bad.

I don’t run a bed cover, but I use CBI overland bed bars with a Skycamp mini and it has been great. I just installed RCI’s full skid set and now looking at switching from bed bars to RCI HD rack.

RTT and mounting systems are personal, definitely choose if you want a soft or hard top, how high over the bed or roof you want it. There are a bunch options.

I’d also consider a skid plate if you don’t have one. I have seen somethings on fire roads that I didn’t like.

I’m running stock wheels, but wheels are a personal choice as well, so many options out there.

 

I went with the OEM all weather mats. I live in south Florida so basically only dealing with water and sand. The fit is excellent and I like the Tacoma logo. For the tonneau I went with the Bakflip G2 and am very satisfied. An alternative you may want to consider for the bed mat is a BedRug. I like it because it gives more cushion for my knees than the OEM rubber mat but is still pretty tough. Didn't do the blackout or cargo divider.

 

I’d go aftermarket for everything except the bed mat. You’ll save money and probably get better quality or something more suited to your needs. The OEM all weather floor mats blow. Get Husky or WeatherTech, I’m a Husky guy. The OEM divider looks pretty heavy and ties up your bed rails I’d probably just get one of those cheap bars.

The bed mat for me was an impulse buy, but I ended up liking it a lot. Helps a lot with stuff sliding around. I got that OEM. I ordered my truck with the OEM all weather floor mats and really liked them too.

For the blackout package, I got most of my stuff off Etsy. It was a fraction of the cost of the OEM and seemed to be of the same material/design as far as I could tell comparing them with OEM pictures. I was satisfied with the quality and look when I got them too. I'd send you links to the ones I bought but unfortunately it looks like the guy I bought it from doesn't have an account anymore (assuming Toyota went after him with a cease and desist). I'd highly recommend getting the tailgate insert and the glove box insert. Really makes the truck pop. I just ordered some door handle covers and a blackout kit for the interior from AJT Designs (https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/). I did have to get some stuff from an Etsy shop to blackout some parts of Taco since it was a manual (center drink console and shift knob) since no one makes molds for them. MESO Customs (https://mesocustoms.com/) sells similar stuff but its usually out of stock.

I'vd had it for over a year and its holding up really well, no fading or anything. Drove with it from NJ to CO and spend a few months there, drove back too. There was very minor water that made it in after really bad storms, but that was moreso on me not installing it properly than due to the cover itself.

I also highly highly recommend getting a power tailgate lock if you don't already have one.

 

You recommend OEM TRD skid plate?

 

All depends on the use of the truck, if you are not rock crawling and don’t want to remove the “structural bars” (many threads on skids and “removing structure bars” on TW, then yes.

I’d either go OEM or RCI.

OEM keeps the “structure bars” where as most aftermarket remove them for installation.

I just put RCI’s full skid set on mine and only broke a little plastic brake line clip, install was nice and easy, and RCI has great customer service!

If your are just wandering about fire roads and doing mild off roading then OEM should be more than sufficient.

Love the oem bed mat.

My truck came with the oem all weather mats l, they’re fine so I never even took the weathertec out of the box.

If you’re talking exterior “black out”, I did a combination of emblem removal, Meso parts, pro grill, pro tails, headlight blackout, ss3 fogs and hyperdip (door emblems).

I have the Retrax XR tonneau, I love it and it works with a variety of racks for a RTT if you want to combine those two. Good pricing here on TW.

 

When I negotiated to buy my Taco, I had them thrown in:

1) Pro Grill,
2) All weather Mats,
3) soft top tri-fold Tonneau cover
4) Winter Tire package,
in the deal before I signed the papers. Kept asking for more, but the salesman said the was no more meat on the bones....

 

Regarding factory items: Id consider the auto tailgate lock and bed light. I use both daily.
I added TRD pro rims to my 21' OR. They look great on the MGM with blackout package. Not sure with other colors.

Everything else I did after market. I put on Truck Covers USA retractable tonneau today.
