Who didn't get an extended warranty and wished they had?

To answer the OP's question, I have never purchased one and then later wished I had. I choose to self insure when it comes to something like a car, appliances, etc.

And I always see folks say "I plan on keeping this truck for a long time " to justify buying a long extended warranty. Many say that, but few actually end up doing it.

You have a good point. If the Tacoma is uglified like the Tundra I'll stick with the Gen 3.

I've bought a bunch of cars over the years (just about all Hondas, Toyotas, Subarus, and a couple of Fords) and I can't recall ever using the warranty other than a few recalls.

    Good point.

    Now add to that
all your appliancesHarleys, computers yard tractors TVs washers dryers refrigerators board over the years without Extended service contracts.

I'm in my sixties and I have never purchased an extended service contract on anything, not even a cell phone. I calculated that I saved well over $25,000 in the last 35 years not buying extended service contracts .. And that's after any cost for services failures I had to pay for over the years. Insure yourself.

    Insure against catastrophe, not inconvenience

If the engine goes in my current weekend ride, I'm looking at 25 Grand. The extended service contract is 4 grand and the car only has 25,000 miles on it. I'll insure myself and add another $4,000 to my savings over the years.

    Peace of mind?
    Xanax is a lot cheaper

I think you missed when they ruined the Tacoma first in 2016 and THEN ruined the Tundra soon after haha.

I would assume you hear more about people that bought them and got nothing out of it because they didn’t have issues with their Tacoma in the warranty period. And they are even much less value if you drive a fair bit of mileage.

Wife made me get the extended warranty for my truck. 3 years or 36k miles… I drove 45k the first year.

I’ve used mine twice already. Is funny cause Toyota wouldn’t fix it under the normal 3/36 but with the platinum plan they did. Usually I don’t get them but have had more dumb issues with this truck in 30k miles than my last three Jeep’s in 90k between them and they were wheeled almost every weekend and modded out. The electronics are iffy af in these things. It’s worth it just for that. I’ve had leak fixed, driver window, LCAs, 3 batteries, bushings, tss sensor. My e brake still doesn’t work, leaf springs still squeak and frame has more rust than my rigs I drug through rock gardens. So yeah was worth it to me. I’ve owned over 20-30 cars and bikes and this is the first warranty I’ve ever bought.

Wife wanted the extended warranty cause it made her feel better about the purchase. Is that better wording?

Yes it’s a Toyota plan under the Toyota financial services

she’ll send you your card, receipt and everything

I got the 6yr/100k Toyota platinum plan for $735. That’s about $10 a month. I spend $10 a day on dumb sh*t so this was a no brainer. One electronic part goes bad and it pays for itself

    I sleep better for sure.
Disclaimer: this was the pricing before all the covid blew up

I just had the QI charger replaced under extended warrant. Rubber was bubbling up. $100 deductible instead of $700. Intake manifold replaced at 59.5 k under manufacturer warranty. If I was past 60k it's nice to know that would have been only $100 out of my pocket.

In today's environment, I wouldn't want something electrical to go bad on any car
it could be very well sitting for six months while they wait for a chip

Too bad Toyota doesn’t refund the warranty like they used to.

What do you mean? I thought you could cancel and prorate it at anytime. I did that on my 2018 4Runner. Has something changed?

But let’s be honest and admit they went and ruined the Tacoma back in 2005

From what I understood, they did away with that. On my 2012, I got the full amount back. When I bought my 18 and inquired, they said that was no longer the case.
