Looking for tire recommendations for 2014 TRD Sport PreRunner. I live in lower Midwest where we basically get 5-7 days total of snow or ice during the winter. Some hills and occasional trial driving. Just looking for stable good tires for wet weather and occasional snow and ice. I did a thread search and couldn't reach a consensus as to best All Weather option.

And, yes I know 4x4 is better and your peepee is bigger and 2wd is lame. Please save those comments for another thread. I get it you are awesome!

I saw a set of Michelin defenders on sale today. Very nice ride. My gf has them on her Yukon.

Problem with most threads like this is that guys often recommend what they are running. Hey, if I spent my $$ on it, that means it's the best choice for you, right? Not wanting to buck the trend or disappoint anyone, that's exactly what I'm gonna do. But I will add that I have run several different brands on various vehicles over more years than I care to admit. My all-time favorite brand is Michelin, and they make several different tires. TireRack.com has reviews and you can contact them for recommendations. Now -- having said all that -- I am running Goodyear UltraTerrains and they are the best tire I ever had in snow, excellent in rain, fairly quiet, and so far have been wearing nicely. They are exclusive to America's Tire / Discount Tire Direct, so you won't find them anywhere else. Oh btw you are right about the other stuff that we'll save for a different thread.

Years ago when I was running helpless 2wd S10's (Ohio), studded snow tires and some weight over the rear axle made it a completely different animal when the snows came....

I have been using Michelin Defender LTX.

No complaints. It’s a long wearing tire. I put them on wife’s RAV4 also.

    Nothing fun yet...
2wd with only 5-7 snowy/icy days a year and occasional trail riding? I'd say just get whatever name brand tire is on sale at your local shop. Doesn't sound like you need anything aggressive, just something that'll last a while. Check tire reviews online before purchasing whatever you buy, of course.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Stock size Mastercraft Stratus AP p metric tires seem to be saving me $20 per tank of fuel over my other LT set up. Check them out

I can confirm, I grew up in Ohio. I did this with my old trans am at rally events and it was solid in the snow and ice.

I’ve always run Coopers, never been disappointed. The AT3 4S sound like they would fit the bill for you.

I really like the Hankook ATM 3-ply for mostly road/highway but capable snow/light mud roads when needed. That model is d/c, so I just replaced with Dynapro AT2. I like them so far, but I have not had any snow to judge them by.

If you do more off road than on or have lots of sharp flint in your roads, they make them in the heavy 10-ply version too.
