Installed the 5100 yesterday on the rear and the bushing this morning is almost completely flat. Do I need to loosening the upper bolt. Is the damage to the bushing far to bad? Both sides are the same.

On any shock I have installed there is a positive stop to provide a set amount or preload on the shock bushing. If you tightened them to the stop then they are set up correctly. Tightening anymore will just tear out the threads of the nut or shaft and loosening them we let the nut walk off and not let the shock do it's job or come out of mount the and cause damage.

So I need new hardware? I loosened them up and they look better. It’s not even been 24 hours

No I am saying tighten them back up, to the torque spec if you have a torque wrench. They are supposed to be crushed like that. You can not over tighten the bushing. There is a step in the shaft that the shock manufacturer has designed into the shock shaft to crush that bushing to the correct preload.

Here is a picture I just took of my shock bushing. It looks exactly like yours only 4 years older.

Sorry, I was out camping. That is way too tight. I have just a couple threads showing past the nylock nut.

Back it out to show 6-7 threads. Specs call for 15 foot pounds
