    Drove to the gas station, fill up. Stopped at the dog park, came home. Heard a new noise as I came up the driveway. Stopped and looked under the back, where I heard the sound. And low and behold my rear gas tank strap had broke off and left for a life somewhere else.

    Now my newly filled tank is hanging from the front, and equally rusty strap and sagging down. Hard to believe with all the stuff they (Toyota) replaced when they did my frame, that they reused these straps. Well at least they had to take them off, so I should be able to get them off without alot of fuss.

    New ones ordered from Rockauto, 54 bucks to the house. I will check back when the new ones get here and I do the repair.

    You wouldn’t be the first.
    It happens.

    @danteisme had it happen.
    Maybe he knows what it takes to replace them DIY?

    Those bumper bars are absolute rust havens. Replaced mine early last year, about a year & a half after I got a new frame.

    You must live in the rust belt. Had this happen to a couple of Ford Rangers and when the strap broke it was the only thing holding the fuel in. At least the Tacoma has a plastic tank.

    Its not a bad DIY if you can get the bolts loose. It took some doing, and I also think a pair of vice grips for one part, but as long as none of the bolts round off its definitely a doable DIY. I just used a piece of wood on a floor jack to hold the tank up (while it was on E on the gauge as well). And definitely replace them one at a time.

    Old stuff came right out, no worries. Could be as Toyota had it off to do the frame, only couple of years ago. Used two straps to hold tank in place , well had to pull it back up into place first...

    Now I am waiting on Rockauto, they say shipped on the 29 to be here yesterday.

    On the bright side, as its on 4 jack stands in my driveway, I can rotate the tires, and grease the driveshaft easy as pie.

    Same thing happened to me. Toyota replaced my frame and put the rusty straps back on.like a month later I drove over a speed bump and one strap broke, I could hear it scrapping on the driveshaft. Toyota should of told me about it or replaced them, that wouldn't be good if the tank feel off.

    Gas tank straps were replaced with frame by Toyota on my 08.
    Mine was done in 2018.

    Straps showed up last night from Rockauto. Fitted and back on the road, no fuss at all.

    Now my biggest problem with the truck is peeling clear coat and fading paint. Some area's are down to primer, like above the drives window. Painted my share of cars, but not for 30 years....
