Most tow companies will use a flat bed for any 4x4. There are certain ways to flat tow 4x4 vehicles but it usually doesn't involve just flipping certain switches (for lack of a better term).

Not to threadjack but my wife's '10 Elantra ran like a champ with almost no oil left in the motor. I also found that the maintenance light is out and it will throw a cel before the low oil light came on. Indication of low oil was reading the code that the vvt seleloid was stuck.

The fuel injectors are not covered by the powertrain warranty, they are covered by the emissions controls warranty, which is 7 years/70,000 miles - certainly not 3 years/36,000 miles.

Any advice if Toyota corp denies to approve the issue? Am I shit out of luck at that point or can I fight it further?

Can’t even imagine what the dealer would charge me. I’d do it myself if it was drivable.

This reminds me of the 60some year old woman that posted she was having issues with her Tacoma. It would just quit running, it was throwing codes, lots of dashboard warning lights etc. The dealer "fixed" it a few times including changing out all the injectors...twice.

Eventually Toyota Corp got involved and lead the clueless tech down the diagnostic path, I think a new ECU was the cure.

I’m about to lose my shit..

apparently there’s water in the fuel, so they’re not covering it so they’re charging me 1,100. Frankly I’m not sure how there’s water in the fuel when I stay away from deep water or any water.

I don't think I've ever had problems with fuel injectors in almost 140K miles!

did they test the fuel? Like an oil split test with acid or something similar?

I asked how they know and they said that they tested the fuel. I honestly don’t understand how there’s water in it.

Water in the tank is not uncommon and can develop over time. There are several fuel additives that help with this but I find it super hard to believe they can pin it on that.

Did they provide you a copy of the analysis?

I just got off the phone with them.

the guy said they found water in the fuel, tampered air box, and cleaned out throttle body. Which is when I lost it. My throttle body has never been touched and a new air filter and possibly loose intake bolts are not going to cause a misfire/check engine light.

I told the guy I’d call back later.

Lots of things can cause water to get into the fuel. It could be something like water fording (unlikely, but possibly) or it could have come from the gas station itself. There's also leaving the fuel tank too low for too long in the right atmospheric conditions which will cause condensation to build up on the inside of your tank.

We ran into this issue with our 2019 4Runner last fall. It sat near empty for a few days, then I filled it, and it sat another few days before being driven. Lots of misfires and it was running really rough. It cleared up when the water got through. Ever since then we've tried to avoid leaving the tank low for that long and have used products like Heet and haven't had an issue since. Try using that and see what happens.

My understanding was that the dealership opened up a case since it wasn’t under warranty anymore. I feel like they’d just give me the runaround at this point.

For what it’s worth, your comment is somewhat relieving.

Frankly I’m not sure if I should take the truck home or have them fix it.

    Option A,
Limp it home. Hope it doesn’t cause anymore damage. Add heet and pray it passes.

    option B,
They “fix” it and shaft me for something else.

So they want to drop the tank to remove the fuel, I wonder if just filling it up to full with some heet would help.
Im just not sure how much water is in there and in afraid of permanently damaging the engine.

Are you kidding me??? These guys sound like they’re completely full of shit!!! Sounds like someone needs to do some kind of sting operation and bring in a perfectly maintained and great running vehicle to these guys. It would be interesting to see the laundry list of what they find wrong with it.
I’d try to get every piece of documentation you can get from them and if they try to give you the runaround report them to the better business bureau. I’d only hope that they’re being on the up and up with you
