Sounds like you're just the demographic Ford is hoping to capture with the Maverick.

Crap - I meant the Escape. I blame a lack of coffee at that moment.

I just read somewhere that the Maverick is based on the Escape platform. Im no fan of Ford but I think they are going to have a winner with that little truck. If Toyota would do something like that I would buy one right now. Im looking at new cars as soon as they can get them back on the lots. That Hyundai Santa Cruz is neat with those crazy headlights.

I saw one at a dealership and I thought it was interesting. Not for me, but I certainly see the appeal and I appreciate they are trying to do something different. It's really small.

My XL ecoboost is supposed to be built the 2nd week of November. I expect an early Dec. delivery.

If anyone's interested I can report what I think of it. Rolling the dice here and hoping it's a decent vehicle, $23,000 is not pocket change for me.

Ford and Toyota Partnered together a few years back to design Hybrid Trucks IIRC, so I imagine some of what you see with the Maverick is a direct result of that.

Edit: Even found an old article.

You'll be waiting awhile, most likely. Hybrids are not being ordered for dealer inventory. Can only get one if you order it yourself.

I will, at the very least, be waiting until dealer's start stocking them on lots before I even consider swapping. At the same time, I'd like to see how the first year or two go.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    ...^^^... On my 3rd RAV4 .. 2019, 2020, and now 2021 .... love this vehicle ... I am a Toyota Guy (for the most part).

FWIW ... A XLE is the sweet spot for me in a RAV4.

I love me some base model vehicles. I’d probably do the same. The hybrid would be great but I’m not a fan of CVTs

Yeah maybe, I mean I’ve had 2 Tacomas and loved them both. Change is good though. I see this as a stepping stone to get into a EV truck. I like small vehicles. My other car is 91 Miata. Truck culture where I live is gross and mostly posturing. Big trucks with stupid mods that have never seen dirt (no tacos really). I’m trying to go the other way, getting a truck that fits my life.

They are using a eCVT that is chain drive. Fingers crossed it’s pretty solid.

We must live in the same place, lots of posers aggressively driving jacked up trucks? Yeah. I bought a Tacoma because it was the smallest truck available, and it's still too big. If Ford brought out an EV version of the Maverick I'd take a look too. Hopefully they designed it with electrification that in mind, but I doubt it. The EV version would certainly get rid of a lot of Ford's problem areas like transmissions and engines.

Alex on autos went over the transmission. I believe it’s not even chain drive but some sort of planetary gearset

The CVT they use is based on a Toyota design that's very reliable. It's nothing like the lousy Jatco CVTs that Nissans mulch for breakfast.

It's probably the most reliable transmission in any car or truck Ford makes.

But yes, CVTs are pretty soulless when it comes to driving pleasure. That's not why anyone will likely be buying a Maverick, though.

Yes, it’s a planetary gear set. 1/3 less parts.
