My Tacoma will not go into OD but the code it’s throwing is p0333 which is a knock sensor. Truck runs fine otherwise. When I clear the code it shifts fine. What would the two have in common?

Limp mode. Check for mouse chewed knock sensor wires and then call your insurance company.

Knock sensors won't cause limp mode, but if the wires are chewed up they could be grounding.

You need to inspect under the intake manifold.

From personal, first hand experience, yes they absolutely will. A knock sensor fault/CEL will put the truck in limp mode, retard ignition timing, and lock out OD on an auto trans.

When the chipmunks ate the wires on mine, it wouldn't go into OD. If it's chewed wires it's a job to fix, if it's a faulty sensor, it's a job to fix. Have fun.

unusual the knock sensor was hearing knocks where there were NO knocks.......

faulty/defective must cancel it out resulting in CEL + limp

Most ECU’s look for a default value or a range from a sensor. The knock sensor, if hooked up and working, doesn’t output zero. If the ECU sees no value, it’s cause something ain’t right.

A knock sensor is basically a calibrated microphone and the ECU wouldn’t retard timing unless it saw more than X events in a set period.

Did this permanently resolve your problem? Mine is doing the same thing and just want to check before I put out the $$ to repair.
