Hello! I've already gotten so much help here (thank you!) that I thought I'd ask my latest question:

Engine just clicks when I turn the key, but the emergency clutch start gets her going right away. Battery connections are solid. Any ideas? I note she revs a bit when I first start her up.

    Thanks!

If it won't start when you step on the clutch but starts with the clutch cancel switch it sounds like a bad clutch pedal switch.

    I would agree.
    do you have Cruise Control?
If you do i'm guessing it wont work due to a possible faulty clutch cancel switch.
not too expensive, and anyone who's comfy on turning a wrench should be alble to swap it out. Be warned, its tucked up in there and may require you to contort your body! ( I know I had to!! )

I believe she's referring to the clutch cancel start switch.

    Hi Everyone,

No cruise control here --- former owner was a back to basics kind of guy. Or at least if I do have it, I sure don't know where it is!

Didn't push until started; stumbled upon the clutch cancel switch as a helper in desperate circumstances. But I'll look into the clutch pedal switch.

Thanks! As always, you've all been very helpful. I appreciate it.

I hated having to stomp the clutch to start. So I did the delete mod, simple as removing the relay and sticking in a wire with a couple spade connectors on it. I had the same symptom, occasionally it would just click and not start. I tested the clutch switch, it was bad, thats when I bypassed it. After that, it would still occasionally just click, but not as often. As recommended by Jimmyh, I replaced the starter solenoid contacts. After that it starts every time I turn the key.

If you decide to bypass the clutch switch, it's important to remember if anyone else ever drives it, assume they left it in gear. Valet parker, car wash, mechanic, etc. So you don't turn the key and have it take off into something.
