I contacted Rough Country (RC) and they indicated that the X Series has some special OEM mods to the control arms etc., and that their kits will not work with the X series trucks. Does anyone understand the X series MODS they are referring to and what the limitations are? Is there a good turn key 3" lift kit available for the X series, or should I piece it together myself?

    Goals:
    - Overlanding
    - Forest trailsgreen21.jpg
    - High desert
    - I don't want to destroy my taco
    - Family oriented fun
    - Keep reliability

The XP package is just an appearance. So any regular lift that fits 3rd Gen tacomas will work.

you don't need a new lift to accomplish your goals. Just slap an AAL in the back to handle the extra weight of overlanding gear and be happy you didn't waste a ton of money.

I've done insane trails on stock height, you'd be surprised what the truck can do if you air down and drive it well.

If you really need a lift (I did, no judgement) go with a setup from Accutune.
