So I think the dealer was trying to shaft me.

picked it up with no check engine light, running fine. Now that’s not to say it didn’t have water. So I pulled into the nearest gas station and filled up with gas/heet. Made it home without any issue. Still has odd idle, but for now all seems normal again.

Thank you @RedWings44 the comment about your 4Runner gave me the courage to attempt fixing it myself.

    The saga continues..

I think the dealership dented my truck, but I have no way of proving it nor did I see it when I picked up the truck. At this point they’ll probably say it happened after I left their lot.

No. Feel pretty stupid right now. That’s probably the first thing they’ll tell me too.

Per p. 25 of the 2018 Taco warranty manual, fuel injectors are not one of the components on the 7/70 list. Defects for the remaining emissions components would then fall under the 3/50 Cali emissions component defect warranty. Fuel injectors also aren’t one of the handful of 8/80 emissions components under the non-Cali, general emissions warranty (p. 18-19). Only the emissions control module. Unless Toyota has come up with some completely new term for fuel injector. Am I missing something?

It kind of blows my mind if this is the case.

It was a seriously dry burrito. Actually made me laugh in a “this is not my day” sort of way lol.

I actually must apologize, I looked it up after and they only include the injectors on some models. It is included for the Highlander, 86, and a few other D-4S engines. Very surprised it is not listed as such for the Tacoma. :\

I will take a look when I have a minute and see where the Tacoma actually falls for injector warranty.

Costco seems prone to contaminated gas, but they do make it right. Call corporate; you wouldn't be the only one to get bad gas if it's the case.

I still can’t believe the injectors aren’t included in the power train warranty; they are for other vehicles.

I can tell you that water running through a diesel injector will hydraulic the nozzle off the injector. It is possible that this could happen on the high pressure direct injectors but I don't think that's likely. The gas injectors work a little differently. The water will plug up the injectors though because it has surface tension and likes to stick together. So it doesn’t flow easily through the nozzles like fuel. Gas Line Antifreeze will help as mentioned by others.

    Working on it ...
This is a true statement. I used tow and cut my teeth on sling style tow trucks. Then when they came out with “new” style where you could just wrap the gates around the tires of the vehicle and angle it, lock them and lift, I remember thinking, “holy crap, that makes things so much easy”! Almost took the art out of towing ;)

By time I got out of the towing game, I was driving a flat bed. The place I worked for never got another conventional tow truck after they got that first flat bed. I started out old school tow truck and ended driving a flat bed. But started out Old School.

Really, the only rear “hook” towtrucks you see now a days are the big boys, towing a bus or dump truck or tractor trailer rig. The heavy and over size things.

Not a problem. Run some fuel through it for a while and keep diluting. Can't hurt anyway. Hopefully you're all set!

In my area a lot of Repo guys drive 3/4 ton pick-up's with a wheel-lift on the back. I agree though, most towing companies in my area run Flat-bed's now.

This doesn't apply to Taco's obviously but a couple of years ago I needed to have my Manx Dune Buggy towed home after a breakdown. I called the Auto Club and spent the majority of the time on the phone trying to explain to the operator what a street-legal Dune Buggy was and why I was sure that it didn't need gas or a jump start. 45 minutes later a flat-bed tow truck arrived and five minutes later both car and I were in/on the truck and headed home. During the drive the Tow Driver told me that if you tell the operator that the car is a convertible they will always send a Flat Bed.

I cross-paths with a lot of Tow Truck Operators as part of my job and have actually considered maybe doing some towing on the side. At least where I live the pay seems pretty awful but I think chasing around picking-up wrecked or broken cars could be fun. Maybe someday.

Alright everyone, time for an update and I’m in need of some help/advice.

-As far as updates go, truck was doing ok. Decided to burn a tank of gas so despite friends/family telling me not to, I drove 200 miles.. let me tell ya, I was stressed out as hell. lol

So the truck definitely stalled a few times. Not completely, more of a loss of power. Frankly it didn’t even misfire. It just lost 90% power. So I would pull over, turn it off, then restart; problem resolved-ish. Check engine light is on as well as “trac-off.” One big thing I noticed is that the loss of power is under load. So any mountain pass or significant increase in speed and the truck will cut power. If I let off the gas and gradually give it gas it will pick up speed. But it HAS to be done slowly which made it super sketchy. I was basically behind the truckers the whole way.

So, I wonder if the truck is under some sort of limp mode. Doesn’t idle rough, nor does it seem to be misfiring. Granted I’ve only gone through 3/4 of a tank with “heet” added to it. If there was water im sure It’s still in there.

    Sooooo, options?
    A) still water issue
    B) maybe injectors are bad too?
    C) limp mode…?
    D) all of the above.

I think ima purchase a decent OBD2 scanner on Amazon to clear the codes. If It’s in some sort of limp mode, etc. A quality OBD2 should give me some relevant info? This one seems promising. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073GW5MTS

Buy a 20$ scanner, you don't need graphing, all you need is an obd2 scanner with freeze frame data.

I thought the transmission diagnostics might come in handy, maybe?
Is the graphing really the only difference? I currently have a 20$ Bluetooth one that gives me codes but don’t have a lot of options in terms of clearing the codes or resetting things.
