I know there are some old threads on this and I have looked at them to the best of my ability...but most are very old....
I still see some of the TRD kits (that include the shifter) for sale new...
Trying to decide between the two...have seen some of the concerns about hard going into reverse, etc...

My Goal: I have a 2007 5 speed 4 cylinder 4x4...just got it...it has an aftermarket ball that i want to replace back with the original oblong that came on it...
I would like a shorter throw...kind of going after the look of the newer ones which seem to be a shorter shifter stick and more compact...would like the shorter throw also...but don't want a heavy aftermarket ball on the shifter...just the original rubber or leather...

Has anyone compared these two lately?
If you get the TRD with new shifter can you put a stock rubber oblong top back on it?
Do these have a shorter stick than the URD?
    Any other things to know?

I cant speak for the URD, but I have the TRD and have no issue going into reverse. Just requires a little extra force to keep you from accidentally going into reverse. The factory knob should be fine on the shifter.

The TRD short shifter will not work on your 5 speed manual

Just spoke to him about the URD...didn't realize that it raises the shifter another 1"....that is the opposite of what I wanted...would I have the option of cutting my existing shifter 1" and rethreading?
Has anyone done this? I want to use the stock Tacoma shifter knob (the oblong one) so would that be an issue of not going down far enough hitting the taper on the shaft?
