    Hey guys,
I live in MS where we have lots of high water/deep mud. So we don't have much danger of rocks bouncing up to damage the locking diff solenoid. My 2020 TRD will see light to medium duty trail time in CO/WY/AZ/etc. over the next couple years. Is the armor for the locking diff solenoid such as the one available from Marlin a worthwhile mod or is it just an unnecessary answer to a very rarely encountered problem? TIA!

If you don't get it you will need it. If you get it you will not need it. Your call.

What are you even talking about? The actual solenoid is internal to the 3rd member on the 3rd gen e-lockers. The only thing external are the wires and connectors and they are located well above the pinion.

There is no external locker solenoid on the 3G tacos. One of many features that makes them vastly superior to 2G Tacomas.

    The solenoid is the actuator.

Thanks for the info guys. Did not realize they made that improvement on the 3G. Just crawled under the rear end for the first time. 3G has a factory installed metal shield protecting the external wiring that should work fine for me. No extra weight armor needed there which is great. I already added enough weight up front reinforcing the flimsy 1/8" sheet metal bumper attachment flanges for the 10K H20 winch and bumper.

As previously stated, this is a big improvement over the exposed actuator setup on the 1st Gen TACO.

    EDIT: Fixed it. Thanks!

The 2nd gen didn't have a solenoid, it's an electric servo motor actuator. It's the electric motor and such that was exposed and companies made some armor for.

Ouch! The original metal shield is still attached on mine so no idea what the p/n is. Partsouq.com usually has clear parts schematics. Good luck!
