Did that on my Wife’s V6 Highlander, and of course now it leaks oil as expected. Shop says it the nature of the beast,……. BS.
My little Taco runs fine, except for noisy rear wheel bearings.
Is there a 4 Cyl timing belt replacement interval called out somewhere? Does it have a belt??

I don’t know if there is an actual recommendation.

    It’s a chain.
They usually get changed with the engine. - As in - new engine with new chain.

I’ve never seen one replaced that wasn’t because there was already some other major internal work being done.

If the engine makes it to 350k + maybe…..maybe then I’d consider replacement.
    Depends on the trucks condition.

Not sure why changing a timing belt would cause an oil leak but both the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 and the 2.7L 2TR-FE I4 engines in the 2nd gen truck use timing chains.

There is no specified replacement interval for them, with proper maintenance they generally should not have to be changed until the engine is worn out.

Most often when they are getting worn out you will get timing codes and or a rattle noise from the front of the engine on cold startup and hot idle.

Are these like a Honda where there is a chain tensioner that is recommended or good insurance to replace but not the chain ?

Thanks for the answer, so not an issue. I suspected it might be a Chain.
