I'm gonna check this out tomorrow. If those bushings are shot (only 6 years old and 71k miles) that metal to metal contact could be the culprit.

Don't laugh. Try greasing up the hood latch....preferably something heavy like bearing or chassis grease

Maybe this will help with a diagnosis. I went out this morning, put up the hood, stood at the right front fender and shook the truck side to side. I got a distinct "knocking" sound which maybe the one I'm looking for. Repeated this on the driver's side and got the same noise. I don't remember hearing this before I got the upper ball joint (driver's side) replaced and the alignment (same shop). Could it be something related to the alignment (tracks straight) or the b all joint replacement?

Shouldn't be unless they left something loose, if you can duplicate it in the driveway it shouldn't be terribly hard to find if you get a buddy to shake the truck while you put your ear to it.

Mystery solved. I took into my local shop and they discovered a loose sway bar end link nut. Tightened the nut and the noise is gone. SO, if this happens to you, make sure to tighten your nuts.
