Went to the dealership today to pick up a few parts for my 3rd gen 4runner. I wasn’t surprised to see an almost empty lot, but I was still a little surprised at the prices on the 2 Tacomas they had for sale... A new 2021 SR5 DCSB 4x2 for $46,000 ($45,9something)! And a used 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 with 14,000 miles with a “no haggle” price of... wait for it... $48,000! I know the pandemic and the shortages have messed everything up, but still, wow! Considering I bought my 2021 TRD Off Road 4x4 brand new 11 months ago for just under $40K, I cannot believe an SR5 that isn’t even 4wd is $6K more, before the tax and lic.! And a 3 year old Sport for $8K more! The 2018 did have a small lift (with bro lean) and 285s, but still $48K? Craaaazy.

The prices are bananas, especially with the numerous reported QC issues that turd gen owners love to pretend don't exist. Sounds like all that dealership is missing is a sign (with pictures drawn in crayon) telling the trust fund idiots where to line up and fight for the scraps. Nauseating

Annnnd cue the butthurt masses with their bloated vehicle payments! Might as well be groundhog day.

I'll see myself out of preschool now. Headed back to the 1st gen section where things make sense.

    Oh look, another mod....

Not me! For weeks I've been reading about people paying more than I did, and getting way less options, rebates (if any) and even a higher interest rate. I am very grateful for the deal I got. At the time (Feb of this year), I thought "Man, I should have gotten a better deal, I only got $1000 off MSRP!"

Now, I realize I got one helluva discount! I bought my truck RIGHT before the prices took off. I feel so bad for anyone who has to buy a vehicle (any vehicle) right now. They're going to be gouged on pricing.

I have a friend who is the used car manager at a Toyota dealership. He says if he wants used Tacomas on his lot...be it trade ins or auction sales.....he's basically paying retail for them. Add service/detail costs and build in some profit and you have the situation we see now. And the high cost isn't relegated to just Tacomas. He says to some extent it's across the board.

People can't/won't trade vehicles in because they're nervous about the current situation, unemployed/underemployed or there simply isn't enough new vehicle inventory out there to draw them in.

    Simple supply and demand

Thank you. We have enough issues in 3rd Gen without sophomoric comments from other areas within this community focused website.

I paid $12,995 for my gen 1 I refuse to pay more. Gas was $1 a gallon also. I refuse to pay more there as well. So I just sit at home and cry and wait to die

These prices can happen because of cheap money and a focus on monthly payments. It's supply and demand partly, but prices were be way lower if we couldn't get money so cheap. This is true for houses and higher education as well. Won't be too long until 10 year auto loans are the norm.

Used car prices won't get cheaper unless I decide to cough up a few thousand more for a new one. Don't expect that unless I crash and then I won't have a used car to sell. The pool of used cars is drying up. Pay up.

Was at the dealership in Apex, NC and there were 6 or 7 used trucks on the lot. Two 2019 Limiteds for $39 and $42.5. They claim to have 19 4WDs, I’m assuming that is “ in their network.”

I thought 33k for my new SR5 4x4 V6 AC was nuts. Tag tax and title pushed that up as well... but now,
I'm happy as a clam to have it. Thank god the wife shoved the checkbook into my hands on a cool
rainy day and said go get it. I figure I've beat the stock market the last few months LOL...

Truth is she wanted me to have it more than I did... she wanted something to haul our kayaks and
haul sticks of lumber and plywood and such so she could start building our outdoor kitchen....
yea she's that kinda gal and damn good at it too...

I can't imagine life without a Tacoma. I look at all manner of 'cars' and I'm like,... why...
