    Hi all,

First post, as I was driving a VW before this and therefore had few tacoma related questions. I recently got a '21 OR with a manual. Most of my manual experience has been with bikes, and I only occasionally drive friend's MT cars (not trucks). When I push the clutch to shift from 1st to 2nd, before actually taking it out of gear, there's a strange metallic clunk. It feels fine, but the noise only happens when I push the clutch in 1st, no other gear, and doesn't happen every time. Before I schedule an appointment, is this something anyone else has noticed?

Coming from a VW I have a healthy fear of mechanical breakdowns.

No way I'm finding a manual on the lot to test

It’s just the characteristic of the truck . The manual transmission is clunky on these trucks . Try shifting slower it helps and keep rpm down .

I’ve heard it too. Embrace it.

The best explanation I’ve heard is that it is the result of the transmission case being thin aluminum and thus allowing the normal transmission noises to reach our ears.

If that is true, think of it as a good thing, because we are more likely to hear very bad things going on in the transmission. :)
