If you got 30k to spend why not buy from a private seller . Take the car to a shop for a full inspection before purchase so you know what you are getting yourself into. Dealers are not going to budge on price and will sell the vehicle to the highest bidder even if you have money down on a new one . Happened to a member here on a new Tacoma .

With interest rates on their way up in the future, the value proposition of today is cheap financing money while it is still available.

Same thoughts here basically. I would really like to get my daughter a new or newer vehicle while she's going to college, but prices right now...forget it.
I think most experts (economics?) don't see prices ever coming down but for crying out loud man...a slightly used one...it just a bad time and I feel your pain

I'm selling my house and moving close to work. We'll get a fancy apartment with a pool, fitness center and big balcony. I'll drive my 19 until this is over. Money hasn't been an issue in years and definitely won't be after we sell the farm.

I'll pay cash for something in three years or just retire early. I'm not having any of this.

    . It's supply chain.
    Econ elementary level:
    Demand outpaces supply
    Lead times go up
    Prices soon follow
    That drives inflation.

Nowhere up there says money supply. Money is still worth the same as last year and year before.
Simple supply and demand of commodities and raw materials.
If you don't believe me, take a look at the Baltic Dry Index.

Because everyone is playing the same game. Everything was just in time and low inventory on purpose. Now everyone is trying to stock up … creating artificial shortages/demand.

it’ll drop off eventually. The increased pricing is clearly starting to taper off the demand massively already and only going to get worse

Also the stratification between luxury and basic needs is still accelerating since the 80's. Tacoma sits on the pricey end of that spread so used prices reflect the buying power of those insistent to buy the best truck. I haven't seen any analysis of the slope of new/used Tacoma prices vs. other makes over the last few years but that would be interesting.

This is an interesting article, essentially describes how Tesla managed to repurpose avail electronics vs halt due to supply issues and just increased production 70% yoy based on fast engineering response.

This is probably the one and only time that it is a better idea to lease than to buy if you need a new vehicle....especially a short term lease

Although I haven't looked real closely and don't know where to compare, but I had this same thought. It looks to me like both the money down and payments are both higher.
I agree it's a option worth looking at.
I've only leased one vehicle and that was a 2011 Tacoma DblCab sport 4x4 and the buy at end of lease price was only 19k

There is no game. Lol on price reduction starting. It is just starting!
It's also not artificial demand. Actually, there is not a word of truth in your post.

Yep that is a Fairmont, would be sick if it has a Coyote 5.0 swap and 6 Speed MT.

I doubt $30k wouldn't get you a decent Taco. I got this 2019 TRD ORP for $39k, today........................but here is how and why it happened.

I bought a brand new 2019 4Runner TRD OR Base for my wife back in May 2019. Let's say Asian women hate mail boxes. She knocked one down hard when it had 8000 miles causing a big 14" round dent in the rear hatch and bumper. She also scraped the RF fender. Friend of mine owns a decent body shop, not the most expensive one but good. His estimate is $3850 to fix both, done the right way, no Bondo.

Of course, I couldn't do that. Instead I traded it in. I paid the dealership $1300 out of the door, include tax for that $39k Tacoma. Remember the 4Runner is a TRD OR base trim, I checked my invoice, I paid $36,065 for it back when it was new.

Tacoma is a TRD OR Premium trim, with 12k less miles.

Also, paying cash makes you a less desirable customer to Toyota because they lose out on the financing deal, they prefer to finance.

The opposite is true for real estate (where you may have borrowed this idea) because the seller is not usually tied to the financer so paying all cash reduces risk towards closing.
