I’ve been backpacking in Silverton many years ago, ice lake or blue lake? It’s been a while. Beautiful country

Drove forest road 102 from Santa Fe Ski down to Tesuque Village the other day and it was a delight. Only ran into one other vehicle heading up, and it was another Tacoma! The leaf change was in full effect. The views from Big Tesuque were great but packed with tourists. Once we dropped down onto 102 it was great.

You are too late too see the leaves on 376. Was up there today. The leaves look good but are all blowing off the trees.

I had suspected as much. Still worth the drive especially for the hot springs!

Put in a Leitner bed rack. The RTT on the camper shell was killing bed sides. The bed rack bolts to the bed.

I almost got a shell, but I was worried about it being able to hold the weight, so I did a half rack on my Tacoma and then covered it in plastic, so the RTT sits on the bed rack and the plastic keeps it 90% dust and rain free14713C3B-2FCF-4214-AC3B-DE159B18AC47.jpg86B6775B-3C4A-45A0-9160-448747751C4B.jpg

Took a day trip down to Elephant Butte and got out onto Rattlesnake Island. Was scouting for waterside camping. With the levels so low, we found plenty.

    Hello all,
We are taking a road trip out to the Taos area next weekend.
Would there be some good trails in that area for some sight seeing and not to aggressive off-roading?

Just south of Taos, off of NM 518, Forest Road 437 (Rio Chiquito Road) heads roughly east up into the mountains, following a creek. Easy drive, scenic, lots of side trails as well. A few campgrounds along the way. If you go far enough, here's some wheeling to be found, but it's mostly easy, no 4wd required, iirc.
It can be easy to get off on a side trail & get lost, so keep track of where you turn off etc.
From Taos, go south on NM 68, turn left at the Y onto NM 518; FR 437 will be on your left just after the village of Talpa. I seem to remember that it was not marked very obviously the last time I was there, but my memory is not good.
