clunking noise

i have a 2011 toyota tacoma base extendid cab and when i first pull it out of my driveway there is a bang/clunk/snap not sure what to call it, it only does it first thing and after it sits 6 to 8 hours and i have brought it to multiple places and noone can eaither find it or hear it, does anyone have any clues or ideas, it sounds like a stuck caliper but they are fine then sometimes it sounds like it is in the rear of the truck. any help would be great thank you in advance..

 

When was the last time you greased your driveline ?
How are the splines on your driveshaft yoke ?
What condition are your body and rad mounts in ?
Have you inspected your rear leaf springs ?
When was your last brake job ?
Have you performed the zip tie mod to the steering shaft ?

 

Is it when you step on the brakes? When I back out of my driveway and put in drive the next time I hit the brakes there is a lot of clunking from the pads shifting/reseating

 

Raise the truck off of the ground on jack stands. Physically check each U-joint for looseness, center carrier bearing for looseness, where the drive shaft and transmission transfer meet, and the rear end where the drive shaft meets the rear end. You want to check for rear end play because you are checking the ring and pinion slop going to the rear axles.

 

the brakes are new, the truck is a 2011 woth only 20,000 miles on it and i dont tow anything.

what do you mean it is normal? i have checked front end and it is tight and brakes are new up front and rears are at approx 80%, it only happens maybe twice a day i would think if it was a drive shaft it would happen all the time.

 

It’s normal. My truck has been doing this since I bought it in 2009, with it without new brakes. It’s the shifting of the brake pads after it’s been sitting.

 

Have you checked the end links on the stabilizer bar? If you can wiggle them by hand with the front end off the ground they may be the culprit. Also lower control arms like to clunk. I think the torque spec for them are 100 lb/ft. Suspension components should be torqued with full weight of vehicle on them I.e. not jacked or on a lift.

 

there must be a fix for this anoying noise and yes i checked the links and the lower arms are brand new

 

also it happens when pulling out of my driveway in the morning and when i back in the yard it feels like it is going through the frame but not sure.

i would love to but i would have to wait until tomorrow it is not dong it today.

 

it feels like a driveline clunk you can feel it in the brake pedal and hear the clunk,i cant describe it other than that the rear springs look like they were rubbing so i sprayed some wd40 where they touch just to see if the noise goes away, i thought it was the passanger front pads so i took them all apart and lubed the sides of the pads and changed the 2 pins just to see and now it sounds like it is from the rear. this is driving me crazy and very hard to find, i will try to record the noise tomorrow..

if it was axel wrap wouldnt it do it everytime i drove and not just 1 or 2 times a day?

 

All depends on the condition of your rear leaf springs .
with only 20K on your speedometer , I imagine the truck sat for a long period of time .
Are the rear springs flat from sitting ? got a picture ?

 

truck doesnt sit at all it is a daily driver i just dont drive much, picture added.

 

also spring noise should be all the time not just a few times a day.

 

Your springs look fairly flat to me . I am wondering what happens if you loaded up the box of the truck with some weight
With someone in the cab going from forward to reverse ,I have a feeling if you loaded the transmission up in drive or reverse , you would see a lot of movement .
