They are supposed to be here too, brought mine in today and they refused to change the oil. Said they wouldn't do it at 5,000 and had to wait
until 10,000. I dunno folks I paid FULL PRICE for this Tacoma and it comes with x number of oil changes within x number of miles/years. If I
want to use up one of those at 5,000 miles I should be able to. Pretty damn pizzzzzed about it.

Whenever it comes time to pull my valve cover, I'm excited to see how well I did haha.

Next time ask him to taste the oil and give you his opinion. Just about as scientific as looking at the color.

I would think waiting until 8,000 miles before changing out the oil for the first time it would be pretty dark. These trucks are extremely easy to do the oil changes on. Never go back to a quick change place... your just asking for trouble.

The suggested interval is 16,000km/12 months or 8000km/6 months with special conditions. (Warranty and Maintenance guide).

I have never looked under an automotive valve cover, but I have torn down a couple motorcycle engines. At 84k doing factory recommended 6k OCIs using automotive diesel oil, it was pristine inside other than the spun con rod bearings. The one fragged on the cylinder that had a timing belt snap 4k earlier.

Even the cross hatching on the bores was still visible.

I was in there adjust valves every 6k, same with the used replacement engine. Pristine.

Modern fluids and additive packages are amazing.

    Found some pics:

Under the right side cover with the primary drive reduction:

This is what made me decide that a new engine was gonna cost less than a full rebuild:

    Connie was not happy:

    Just for belt snapping fun:

truly depends on environs & type o driving even tho new

U could have an analysis sent to be checked

commuter stop/go cycling can produce dirty oil quite bit sooner than moderate hi-way travel

it would appear residual high carbon content result from excessive ‘ blow by '

    reading spark plugs

lookin at color o tail pipes

    consistency of radiator fluid

color & consistency of oil may Not be scientific

yet often times can point accurately to ongoing if not developing issues

Yeah. It bent the two intake valves. It was an pretty easy fix, except for the eventual consequence.

That said, both times, I rode it home. 3.6mi on one cylinder with the snap. That is how it earned the name Thumper. The second time, things went south after a fun little pass near redline. It was sorta vibe free under 4k. Much longer ride home with that result. I was most likely my own worst enemy.
