I am due for my 10k mile oil change/ fluid inspection.
Will the dealership check the rear diff fluid? If not will they check it if I ask them to? Should I even trust them?

During Hurricane Ida I may have driven through some water deep enough to go up to the diff. I am not positive and thought it would be worth having them check for water contamination.
It was a brief pass through basically a big deep puddle so maybe there is nothing to even worry about.

    Thanks in advance.

    they wont check it IMHO

At best they will pull the plug and take an oil splotch off the top of the fluid. Water being heavier than oil will pool at the bottom of the diff. May or may not see water contamination if suspended in the oil. Why do you think there may be water contamination? Has the diff been submerged in water for any length of time? Consider getting a diff breather tube extension. Super simple.

Don’t check it, just change it. And if you want to save $$ have someone other than the dealer do it.
It’s now 1 1/2 months after the hurricane, you should have gotten this checked sooner. You are likely still ok but get it changed soon.

dealer will not go that far. If you're lucky they'll crack it open to see if its full but they won't drain anything to look for contamination lol.

Drain it and look at it yourself for close to free? The rear diff is probably the easiest oil change there is...loosen two plugs, drain, refill, tighten, done.

Guarantee the dealer will charge over $100 for a rear diff oil change.

Yeah I work at a Ford dealer in NOLA, we've just been recommending diff flushes if customers are concerned. I assume its the same diff style as the 2nd gen which is super easy to do yourself, honestly its even be easier then an oil change.

not ez to guess just by checking

a change o fluid at a nominal cost is what the dealer will do

    a change lasts a l o n g time .......................cant hurt

water can go in thru the outer axle bearing

    or thru the vent..................or Both
