    I have a '98 Tacoma I have been parting out here on Tacoma World and now I am ready to get rid of it. The company I contacted to pick up the truck says there is a lien on the truck. I have the signed over pink slip in hand. They told me the lien holder may have neglected to report the lien release. Is there anyone here that can run the VIN to check this for me? I wouldn't mind using a pay service for this, but I don't want to do that and find out there is no lien. Thanks.

    Is this lien one that you previously had on the vehicle and paid off? If so just contact the lender and have them send you the lien release (again) and you can take care of this directly with the title agency.

    Also, your state may have a title check option available online, some do. Should show any liens.

    Edit: if it’s potentially a previous owner’s lien and this slipped through the cracks somehow, just ask the company that told you about the lien to tell you what bank. Then you can call the bank and explain the situation and take care of it.

    It was the person I bought the truck from. I don't know the lender.
    California doesn't have an online lien check.
    The company who told me about the lien says they don't have the information as to who the lien holder is.

    It has no active lien according to National Vehicle Service. Does have an impound record from July ‘21.

    That impound record would be from the accident. That's where I got it from. I met the owner there and bought it from him and towed it home.
    I have a discussion on here parting it out. Here is a picture of it.

    I think I figured it out. There is no real lien, Toyota Motor Credit signed off on the Pink releasing their lien, but the owner never reported that to the DMV, so they still have it as owned by TMC.
