Kings/Deavers/SPCs 35x10.5 Kendas, LRA FuelTank, WARN Zeon10s SDHQ mount, Switch Pro, LightForce rock lights, reverse light & Lightbar, Baja Design Squadron Pro fogs, CaliRaised Sliders, RLD Canopy, Odyssey group 31, Dometic CFX3-55IM
This past weekend, myself and two buddies installed my LRA fuel tank on one (semi long) Saturday. So far, so good, no issues at all and no burping on the first fill (still on first tank and I'm at 410 miles). Tank took 32.8 gallons on the first fill (5 gal jerry, then went to the gas station and put in another 27.8 gal). LRA sent a new bracket spacer kit out to us last minute (with instructions), that was a big help. It required shaving a tank bracket gusset and drilling a new hole, which was relatively easy. To be completely honest, the install isn't as straight forward as it could be, but I think LRA is working hard to constantly improve their instructions and product, which has been seen by the great customer service so far. Quick rundown on the install is below, but I definitely think this is one of my top 3 mods.

We were lucky enough to utilize a friends shop, which made pulling the bed super easy. I think the RLD canopy actually increased rigidity of the poly bed assembly. After this photo we lowered it slightly on to a few trans jacks to alleviate some weight from the rails where the canopy mounts to the bed.

Prepping the tank for instal (I had it line-x'd for both protection and stealth).

Shot of the new spacer adapter kit they sent out.

Finished product. It hangs lower than the stock tank, but not as low as I thought it would, which was a nice surprise.

anyone know the "extras" needed for the complete install? does it all come with the kit? if there are issues later are there parts I can get locally? was the bed removal required? or just make it easier to install the tank? interested in a tank that will make it so I don't have to carry 12 gallons of fuel in my bed (overfilled jerry cans). would be nice just to carry water, and a rotopax of diesel for my heater.

You do not need to remove the bed. However, it makes it a lot easier to install. I recognize I was an early adopter , but I still don’t believe they have completely addressed the pressurization problems(burping) by the look of the tank that was just posted in the photos above. I solved mine by adding an equalization line and I haven’t had an issue since. I love the line x idea though.

If I were to do it again, I would probably use marine grade stainless fasteners. Not a requirement depending on where you plan to go but a nice to have. I usually have 10G in cans along with the tank and love the range.

    #imadeitmyself …

I used some fuel line and made my own T fitting out of the supplied 90* brass fitting and another brass fitting.

How sturdy is the tank so you need to run addition armor for it?

I wouldn’t want the weight of the truck on it. May need a custom skid made. After install I don’t rock crawl. It sticks out below frame. Also found ATVs to be more fun in places like Utah.

that spacer kit might be what I needed..

I had my frame replaced by Toyota this summer, and when I went to reinstall the LRA tank, the rear most passenger side mount no longer worked. The new frame was completely different than the old frame. I had to fabricate a mount, but I looks like they may be aware of it after all.

Question for anyone who has one of these installed - what happens to the distance to empty / range on the dash display (behavior-wise)?

Assume it’s inaccurate - is there a way to reprogram that?

    TIA!
