To signal, or not signal, that is the question

Ultimately when I retire in 5-10 years, I plan to move where I won't need to use my turn signals very often. I really don't like having people in every direction I look.

Bring back the caveman era!! :fingerscrossed:

I find the signals to be exceptionally quiet in the Tacoma...

Here in Indiana people don't even know what the white dashed lines on the roads are for.

Kind of hard to do when you have a cell phone in one hand and a cheeseburger in the other.

I always signal and was one of the main reasons for messing with the TotalTail mod twice as the stock light setup is stupid and can lead to signaling / braking confusion. I do not signal in roundabouts though as I see a lot of folks signaling incorrectly there.

Im constantly amazed by people in roundabouts. We have some of the simplest ones in the world in my state, lines paints, arrows showing what you can do, signs, everything. But somehow people fuck it all up.

Same here. I'm just happy that peeps mostly go CCW through them. It's a low bar, but the hordes on the roads seem to find ways to sneak under it.

    Two things:

    A) Always signal. Even if it's for the purpose of staying in the habit of always signaling.

    B) Don't ask permission for changing lanes. Wait for an opening, match the speed, signal, then merge into the hole. Seamless and doesn't inconvenience others.
I don't like to slow down because someone else wants in the space I'm occupying, and I don't expect it of others.

I always signal. This comes from riding motorcycle for years.

So, I signal all lane changes, turns, stops, run with the headlight on and wear full gear. People don't look for motorcycles, they expect to see a car. If they do see the motorcycle, they have difficulty judging the speed and distance of the motorcycle. So, I signal....hoping this will increase my chance of being seen and me not needing to take evasive actions.

This signaling habit carries over to driving 4 wheels.

I will only mention the ID10Ts with their face in the cell phone, doing makeup, reading books or newspapers, fiddling with GPS, eating......anything but driving. These clueless morons are an accident looking for a location and a target.

<edit> Saw this on a bumper sticker.
"If you can't use turn signals. How do you operate the rest of the car?"

It took me a minute to decipher CCW and put counter clockwise in context.

Somehow I kept reading that as people were going full weaponized through your local roundabouts. Dang, that's an escalated response to 'em. :cookiemonster:

Wow, the vast majority here say they use their turn signals. Which can only mean the aholes who almost never use them (probably 50%, you know who you are) read this thread and go …”nah better not post a comment”. lol

By roundabouts, aka "circles", we had some doozies in South NJ. One, in particular, was called the Airport circle in Pennsauken NJ. At least 3 MAJOR roads came together here. That was so dangerous they had to reconfigure it. There were unwritten rules about navigating them like not getting trapped inside (ala National Lampoons European vacation) and who had to yield to who. And if you got trapped inside you had to go around again. Signals were not usable as it was just telling the guy in your blindspot you wanted over and that was his que to cut you off.

I always signal and can't understand why people don't. The few chances I get to talk to somebody who didn't use their signal, I tell them I admire their vehicle but it's too bad they could not spring the extra cash for working turn signals. Then I get a confused look. The more annoying issue is those who forget to turn their signal off and drive for miles and miles with it on

I’m sorry, if you don’t use your turn signal, you are an asshole. It’s so simple to use and makes driving so much easier/safer.

I always signal unless I know I’m the only vehicle on the road.

Shortly after my brother moved down here to Arizona a few years ago, he concluded it must be against the law to use turn signals here.

In my tri state area 70-80% use their signals and maybe half of those use them correctly.
When approaching a non intersection turn, don’t stop then signal! The signal is to warn others you will be stopping. Also signal prior to entering left turn lane, don’t enter the left turn lane then signal… that’s idiotic.

Yea in NJ, people tend to view the white lines as suggestions and turn signals as unnecessary.

I can’t tell you how many times people make a hard right on a five lane highway just to not miss the exit. No signal, no braking, just doing the Jersey slide across all the lanes causing everyone to slam on their brakes.

Personally, I use em all the time except if its late at night and I’m the only one on the road.
