Doesn't the softopper version do that? Unless you are looking for something not full height. If they did have time in their production schedule, they could probably do that custom order for you. Not sure where they stand currently though.

Thank you! I love this rack so far. I almost went with the short height version, but I’m glad I went with the mid. I still have a great line of sight through the rear window and I have usable space between the load bars and Diamondback. I’m actually thinking of adding a snowboard rack on the bottom of the load bars. The mid height still allows you to open the Diamondback which is nice when the RTT isn’t on.

    PS Great choice of avatar!

I think I recall hearing of people getting custom work done by them. This rack took about 12 weeks to get shipped, delivered on the 13th week, so I’d imagine any custom job is at least that or longer.

I have no idea if they can do that. I may have to check.

I did at one point, it was a custom order based on existing products they had. But this was because they had low work load at the time. Based on that timeline, it seems like they won't be open for custom orders for a while until things tone down a little bit.

So, it is a full height overall, but has some slight adjustability in terms of height. If you are looking for a mid-height or lower, that unfortunately is not an option (the adjustability that is).

Let me share a solution to getting an affordable, versatile rack onto a DB cover. These brackets fit exactly into the holes for the anchor cleats on my 2020 HD. The brackets are spec'd to match 15 series extruded aluminum (though most rack systems use 10 series). My crossbars are 60" 1515 (1.5" x 1.5") and plenty beefy. From there, anything is possible. I add a bull bar if I need to protect my rear cab glass. D rings. I've got a big RTT that I put on just the tail panel so I can still access the front panel (I use a pair of extra clamps for the cover when I do that though I'm not sure it's necessary). I used T-Slots to source the extrusion because they're local in Ogden. T-Nutz has cheap fittings and brackets though they discolor. 8020 is more expensive but have many more products. A drawing with specs is attached as a .pdf. Enjoy.

Looks good, although I'd be a little worried about dynamic load creating cracks with a small footprint.
Frontrunner seems to work since the track spreads out the load.
Aluminum is inherently weak to flexing

(Editing) I see far more bars than I thought at first glance. That would work

Added a piece of L track to the front. 1/16 x 1” gasket underneath with silicone. Ski rack mount will come later using L track studs. Could probably also use for bikes.69FE0AB5-9CC5-4824-A198-263643B16B29.jpg 4D83B8E0-1162-4DAD-97C0-A731D71B0121.jpg

Is your diamondback pre-July 2018? They changed them for the newer diamondback version.

It's bomber. That's 1.5" x 1.5" al extrusion, which is different than al bar or rod. I put a 150 lbs RTT on just the rear two bars. It spreads the load into 4 attachment points at the edge of the cover, on top of the truck bed. No flexion nada. And no drilling into my expensive DB. I've put 1,000 lbs of construction material on all 4 bars. The Taco struggled much more than the bars flexed.

Is that a 4 ft length of L Track?

I've been considering something similar and have been looking around at this material.

    Thanks!

I had been looking to see if I could source it in 4.5 foot lengths just to get as much coverage as possible but have not been successful. Maybe I'll do some rails in the opposite direction along the sides as well. I'm still in the idea phase, want a good balance of tie down and potentially the ability to add a rack.

Up in the mountains or out on a mall crawl, we’re staying DiamondBack ready.

Testing out the SurRon ebike at Coconino NF during our visit to Flagstaff, AZ for Overland Expo West. Wondering if there’s a way to haul the SurRon off the back of the DB cover so that a bike rack isn’t needed on the hitch. It would definitely improve the departure angle. I gotta see what can be cooked up for that. Ideas keep popping up sometimes. @DiamondBack Covers, do you guys have something like that already?

How heavy is the bike. Looks fairly light. I've seen side mounted bikes (not motor), but I'm not sure the weight limit. Might be what you are looking for. Might have to beef it up or brace it, but a good place to start.

They’re a little over a hundred pounds. With the battery removed, they’re probably around 80-90lbs. With the trails I’ve ridden with the Tacoma, I prefer keeping a slimmer and lower profile setup. Too wide and too tall can potentially lead to damaged gear. I’m wondering if a set of some kind of locking style industrial drawer slides mounted on the top of the DB HD cover that has some kind of mounting bracket for the bike / bikes could work. If tailgate access is desired, the bike on the drawer rack can just be pulled out more to give room for the tailgate to drop down. Kind of a different take to the swing out style bike racks.

Speak with Diamondback. They are a good crew. They might be willing to help. Good luck.
